John is reporting that this is a $39.5 million deal with about $19.5 million in guarantees. The Seahawks were looking for d-line help not only for what a new player might bring on his own. The team also needed to find relief for Bryce Fisher and Grant Wistrom, who are more effective when they don't have to play every down. Fisher played a very high percentage of snaps last season. Darryl Tapp provided some relief for Wistrom. Kerney gives them another starting-caliber player up front. The question, of course, is whether he can bounce back from injury and continue to produce beyond age 30.

According to Clayton he made his decision while flying back to Atlanta, I'm thinking Paul Allens 757 he was flying on helped him make his decision..

The winner was Seattle, but now another battle brews. The Seahawks and Broncos enter into negotiations Tuesday with New England Patriots tight end Daniel Graham.

Kerney is expected to give the Seahawks a much-needed pass rush. The 6-5, 273-pound defensive end has had three double-digit sack seasons and a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2004. Though hurt by injuries last season, Kerney is still expected to play at a Pro Bowl level.

It probably helped that Kerney got to know Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell when Ruskell worked in Atlanta. Also, Seattle assistant head coach Jim Mora was Kerney's head coach for three seasons in Atlanta.

Joe, Seattle would have been better off in the draft looking for a DE. They could have waited on one of the bookends from Nebraska. Moore or Carriker.

I was wanting to hear that Denver signed him... but that's a lot of money for a guy his age, coming back from injury. I was hesitant about this signing...

Yeah, I think you guys will be better off finding someone cheaper or someone through the draft. Do you think there's any chance you guys will be going after Randy McMichael?
