If Green is traded and Shields, Weigman, and Holmes retire, how much cap space.......

.......will we gain? We should really have some good cap space for free agents if / when these things happen.

Also, isn't Roaf still on the salary cap and not officially retired? When he officially retires, we'll gain more cap space, right? Maybe this has already taken place? I'm not sure.

depends on so many things that we don't know yet.

whenever a player retires the team has the option of withholding the retirement papers ..... deflecting the cap charge for quite awhile.

same with a traded player ....... under the new CBA the team has the option of treating the trade as a post june 1st release ... which splits the cap hit up in various ways.

40% this year, 60% next year
50/50
60/40

it's really hard to judge until we know what choices the team makes.

The wings of a fully grown male mosquito can in fact fetch anything up to point eight of a penny on the open market.

Right. I see what you are saying. But, in any case, we should have considerable cap space to work with. I hope that is the case. I don't want to lose Sheilds, Weigman or Holmes. But, everyone's career has to come to an end sooner or later. I love Trent Green, but I think it's time to trade him.
