Moving to OKC

I am moving to OKC May 4th. I don't have a job there yet, I was wondering if it's too early to start applying for jobs there? I'm just looking for college student jobs...Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

Hell why not? You can apply online right now.

As an employer I'm impressed when I get applications from people who are moving more than a month out. Tells me they're serious about finding work as long as they have a reason for moving there.

I work at Lowe's... Outside Lawn and Garden.... they pay well ($10.00/ hr) are flexible with my school and breaks. It's a fun job and you learn a lot about how to improve your house in the future.

So, do you think most employers feel the same way? I just feel stupid applying to a place that is hiring now when I can't work until May 6th.

Do you think you're the first person with that predicament?

Most applications will have a field that asks what date you're available to begin working. Lot's of people put immediately. Some people put 2 weeks because they would want to give their current employer 2 weeks notice. I have no idea what you would put in that field, but I'll bet you can figure something out.

Most places aren't so desperate to get any moron today that they won't wait 4-6 weeks for someone they like. Anyplace that IS that desperate has a workplace full of morons and you'd be better off not getting a job there.

So, since gmjake is working at Lowe's you know to steer clear of that place.

Thanks for the info. Since he lives in Iowa I'll be ok.

Which school are you planning to attend?

My wife is from Iowa. Since we met I've been compiling a reason why everyone in Iowa is reeruned. She loves it.

Every time we cross the border from MO into Iowa I turn to her in the car and let out a long, drawn out "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh".
