Lawmaker Under Fire For 'Illegal Alien' E-Mail
Man Apologizes; Some Colleagues Not Satisfied

A state lawmaker is coming under fire for sending what he thought was a funny e-mail message to his colleagues.

Some people do not find it very amusing and want him to make a public apology.

Rep. Don Brown, R-DeFuniak Springs, sent a message from his state e-mail account that said, "Don't forget to pay your taxes - 12 million illegal aliens are depending on you!"

Brown said the message was intended to be humorous and to remind people about the upcoming tax deadline.

He apologized and said as far as he's concerned, he's done with the issue.

But members of the Florida Hispanic Legislative Caucus are taking exception to Brown's e-mail, calling it inappropriate and saying such e-mails have no place in the Florida House.

"That term, illegal alien, is extremely insulting to many individuals and I think there has to be something a little bit more public and a little bit more contrite in his apology," an unidentified member of the caucus said.

WTF? Are the members of the Florida Hispanic Legislative Caucus trying to say there are no illegal aliens? The email said nothing of any nationality or race of illegal aliens. Just "illegal aliens".

Sounds like maybe the INS needs to pay a visit to the Florida Hispanic Legislative Caucus.

Illegal Alien is a term they chose when they decided to sneak in through the back door instead of striding bravely through the front.

I think the term Felon would apply nicely.

Wouldn't bother me a bit if it was true. If I didn't like it I would get to work on changing it. Anyone who doesn't care enough to do what it takes to obtain legal status is not worthy of being in my country. Anyone who does care to take those steps I welcome with open arms.

So would you rather them be called "illegal residents of this great country?"

Or "persons who emigrated from another country into the USA illegally?"
