How to create a beehive

Sometimes you can find the craziest stuff on Youtube.

Ever wanted to set up a beehive in your yard? I guess this is the way to do it after buying a package of 10,000 live bees. I cant believe that after dumping them into a box and rattling a few hundred bees around like an etch-a-sketch, that this guy didnt get stung.

Actually, my grandfather used to keep Bees - A LOT of them (Between his hives, his buddy's hives and their partnership hives they had close to 500 hives total). I was always tagging along with him and used to go "help" from the time that I was 10 or 11 on. I remember him getting those exact same packages of bees. Though after he had quite a few hives established he just bought queens in that little queen box and pulled frames from other hives with bees on them to start a new hive.


You'd actually be surprised at how much a bee DOESN'T want to sting. Each bee has the ability to sting once then it dies. With bees in that package, they don't have a Hive yet to defend so they aren't going to be that aggressive anyway. Most of the time when I got stung it was because I mashed a bee or got one caught in my hair. Seldom do the regular honey bees go on stinging frenzies, though they will do so at times when they feel their hive (or queen) is threatened. However, if one bee does sting, there is a pheremone that they release that attract other bees and encourages them to sting also.

You just smoke em first and make sure they are feed with sugar water. I raised bees when I was a kid. They never would attack on command though...
