Fellow Chiefs fans, do you think it would be a good idea........

IF, the Chiefs went after Assante Samuel? Just brought this up as a discussion. I thought I'd like to start a nice topic here.

I see Samuel wants to hold out? What if other teams contacted the Pats about a possible trade? Can you see that happening since he may hold out till week 10? If you're the Pats maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to trade him and get some decent value for him if they're not going give him the contract he desires?

I wouldn't give up a 1st rounder for the guy, but a 2nd round pick I would consider. Mind you though, these are the Pats were talking about, and they'd probably want a 1st rounder.

I just brought this up because I do like our CBs. Don't get wrong, but, I think we could get younger there, and depth is pretty thin there. What if Law or Surtain get hurt? It's pretty bleak after that. I'd like to think this team could use a CB for the future so I figured a guy like Samuel who imo is one of the best in the game would be a nice solid addition, and could fit the mold of being the CB of the future.

Thoughts?

That would be nice...but the price would be too high... in both dollars and compensation.

IMO

If I thought we could get him at a bearable price. The problem is that we have the LJ/Allen situation coming up and another big contract added makes that even harder. Samuel isn't going to play here for chump change.

Depends on whose contract we have to sacrifice in order to get him. I imagine in order to make the cap work, it would have to be horribly incentive laiden and backloaded. I'm sure since the dude is willing to wait until week 10, he is looking for guarenteed dollars, which as previously suggested, we may not have.

Hell no. We need to stop spending so much on cornerbacks.

Hammock Parties 06-06-2007 11:02 AM

NO.

We're overpaying for corners right now. Don't repeat the same mistake.

Wile_E_Coyote 06-06-2007 11:08 AM

secondary is suppose to be Herm's area of getting good young(cheap) players

that is all....

If he's the top FA cornerback, he could demand a lot of money considering Clements recent deal.

Sounds great but Cap hit could but us in CAP HELL for years to come.

Really falls away from where we going in rebuilding.

If we didn't have Law/Surtain. Possibly.

They won't be giving him away..

This guy is going to get seriously paid on his next contract...

I'd hate to know what Bailey could command now if he were a FA.

Pushead2 06-06-2007 11:44 AM

Pass.

Stupid money. As much as it pains, he's probably the cream of CBs in the league.
