Nothing could have been done to save Coolbaugh's life........

.....and it sounds like him wearing a batting helmut would not have mattered, either.

I can't help but wonder how this will affect the guy who hit the ball. I bet he has a hard time even getting in the batters box.

Definitely sounds like a freak thing when the ball ruptures an artery.

that is a shame. Unfortunately, it was just his time to go.

I feel bad for the batter who hit the foul ball. I can't imagine how bad he feels about it.

How do you figure?

The report said it hit in the area behind his ear, which would have been protected by a batting helmet.

Rockies first base coach Hill elects to wear helmet

It is amazing to see the responses to this. Maybe they should wear the full face catcher's mask instead of a batting helmet.

To feel good only, no real protection

I don't recall seeing too many batters using the helmet that has both ear flaps. Haven't they gone away from that?

I've seen them wearing the ear flap on the side facing the pitcher. The first base coach could wear a right-handed helmet and the third base coach could wear a left-handed helmet.

I just thinks it's fallacious to say that a helmet wouldn't have saved him. In fact, it just might have, which is why they should start wearing them right now.
