I Don't Want To Get Downfield's Thing Twisted

I've been streaming KC Radio this morning and listening to comments regarding Downfield. Some guys are saying he did a serviceable job in the second half, others are saying his passes were not crisp or on target and, basically, he was bailed out by Gonzo and Bowe.

I was watching my radio as closely as possible during the game, but I couldn't tell if Downfield's passing in the second half was accurate or not.

So, which was it? Did Downfield come into his own in the second half? Or, was he still throwing high and we can thank Gonzo and Bowe for the win? Thanks in advance for your responses to this question and allovating my flustration.

Disclaimers: Sorry if re-post.

Not real accurate. Bowe made a lot of great receptions of poorly thrown balls. Gonzo not as much but some were off. In Huard's defense, he did make a few nice throws out there in the 2nd half. I still maintain that he's Bono part II, though.

He was very inconsistent with his throws some were on target but most were into double coverage that Gonzo and Bowe had to fight for so it wasn't a interception.

Actually, the passing in half 2 was not bad. The emotion laced hate for Huard is not justified based only on second half. Its probable the hate can be justified on most other levels but Half2 yesterday, he did well.

The play calling on the first 3 possessions were a marvel. It would be impossible to script that part of the game and come up with anything worse. Clearly our planning does not take into account the other teams strengths...avoid them...and weaknesses...exploit them...

Huard was made better by Bowe and Gono no doubt. But that is true of any QB...the reciever has to do thier job as well.

Herms use of the word "flustrated" at least 2 times in post game comments had me flustrated.

Well I had to listen to the radio call... They were saying that TG and Bowe were making great catches...

Problem is, Huard is a vet, savy, proven, and all the other terms Chiefs fans use when picking up a older player.... But he cant make the throws, he is making the wrong reads at times and locking on to his swing pass reciever...

Huard offers nothing for the future and is limiting this teams progress...

So sad, but so true.... Maybe we shouldnt of booed Croyle so loud in practice....

The good throws that Huard made, any PRO QB in the NFL SHOULD be able to make. Most throws were not placed well, thank Bowe and Gonzo for the good hands.

Agreed on the first half, Mr. HonestChieffan. I think we had a total of 37 net yards or something. Perhaps the worst half of offensive football in the history of the league.

I'm wondering about the 2nd half when we actually moved the ball.

IMHO, after watching the game for a second time last night, Huard quit panicking in the second half, long enough to throw up some balls that Gonzo and Bowe made great plays on.
I think two of Bowe's receptions, would have been interceptions with almost any other receiver. The guy has incredible talent.

Huard was high. Over the middle, to the sidelines, in the flat, his s**t was high on almost every throw. To the sidelines and flat 99% of the time the ball sails out of bounds, no biggie.

Over the middle is a whole different story. That's how you get a good receiver killed and passes picked off.

The guy has a noodle arm. There's no zip there, so he has to float that s**t out there. KC is going to pay for that dearly against a pass defense that doesn't suck like Min. I'm just hoping that it isn't Bowe paying with his rib cage.

that is encouraging and disappointing at the same time...

Bowe making the catch and saving the interception = good...

Huards lame ass arm while making shitty decisions = bad...

Expect more from someone who gives us the best chance to win the game... Huard is playing worse than a 2nd year player...

Each game proves to us as the fans and the NFL that Huard is the wrong choice at QB...

HonestChieffan 09-24-2007 07:49 AM

Second half Play calling was less bad. Not great. Less bad. Huard did a passable ( no pun intended) job of finding his recievers and the plays actually had recievers past the line...odd twist of fate perhaps?

The throws to Kris Wilson were on target but out of bounds...why we have KW as a downfield WR is a good topic...

Gonzo is always double covered so any barbs thrown at Huard for passing to him in DC are a bit misguided.

Bowe showed great focus, he can jump over a defender, and hes enthusiastic...all good.

Oline did well in second half on pass protection. No great strides on run blocking. Solari cannot seem to get past up the gut. LJ couldnt get anything going anywhere.

LJ still cannnot catch.

all that was in second half.

Huard has a bad habit of throwing the ball high to TG. Some of TG's receptions had to be snagged out of the air. Bowe had 2 very good catches. On the first he had to make a very big adjustment on a ball thrown behind him. If it was Parker, Webb or Kennison I really think it would have been an INT. The TD was basically a toss up ball. Nice placement on the ball (to Bowe), but again Bowe made a nice grab. If it was Parker, Webb or Kennison - no TD.

His passes didn't look too crisp to me. I noticed alot of floaters and receivers having to adjust.

I would call Bowe's game, the "Catch 22."

If he misses those catches, I think Huard loses his job.

But the good news, I was ready to see a win, any win.

cant argue with that... Well maybe SD will pound our asses into the dirt and we will see Croyle start in Week 5....

One can only hope...
