Should Chiefsplanet have a sub-forum for religous threads?

Yes, religion and politics go hand in hand, and are the two topics that must have their own sub forum/s.

Here's a conundrum, if we outlawed religious threads in the main forum would we still be allowed to keep prayer requests as well?

No. They only show up with enough frequency to stir one's imagination, to think of things like a cage match between Dr. Doom and Frazod, with color commentary by Simplex3 and Iowanian, who wind up standing up, hitting each other with their microphones, then banging each other's heads with folding chairs.
