Current Animal Themes for Band Names

I was listening to NPR last night, and they were talking about songs of the year. One of the things they brought up was the crazy number of animal-themed band names currently. Here are a few, I'm sure you can add more:

Caribou
Minus the Bear
Grizzy Bear
Animal Collective
Band of Horses
Deerhoof
Horse the Band
Sparklehorse
Cat Power
Arctic Monkeys
Modest Mouse
The Mountain Goats
Super Furry Animals

etc...

It's sort of interesting. I guess it's simliar to the trend a few years back where every band was "The" something. The Strokes, The Shins, The White Stripes, The Eels, The Doves, The yada yada yada.

Wolfmother
Wolf parade
The Ponys

So I started googling this and trying to find a list. Some blog with a post about the animal band names was speculating on the next trend in band names. They theorized it would be long names.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Between the Buried and Me
Godspeed You Black Emperor

I saw Band of Horses in Lawrence a couple of years ago. They were much better than the headliner.

I contend that The Eels and The Doves are leaders of the animal band name trend not followers of the "The" something band name trend.

I wouldn't say this is a super recent trend. Modest Mouse and Super Furry Animals have been around for 17 years, while Cat Power for 18.

It just seems that way because Veckatimist and Merriweather Post Pavilion were at or near the top of most critics' top ten lists last year.

Also, you forgot Phoenix and Fleet Foxes.
