Hawaii Vacation
Me and the gal will be taking a vacation to Hawaii, at the Oahu area, in Honolulu in June.
I would like some feedback from some members that been to Hawaii for their vacation time on what would be a good place to go sight seeing, or do some activities. I know that me and the gal got sucba diving/snorkeling, hiking, going to see the Pearl Harbor area, the U.S.S. Missouri, and of course, the beaches. Any other thoughts that would be helpful or suggestions that we should look into? Thanks. |
Why June?

There is supposed to be Somekind of crazy mountain bike ride down a mountain. Where those telescopes are. I think.
Nude beach. Bring back some photos and post them. |
First of all, congrats!
I have been to Oahu a couple of times. You will probably be staying on Wikiki Beach; the most famous beach on the island, but not really my favorite because of the crowds. Hopefully you will be renting a car, if not rent one. A great day trip is to go to north toward the North Shore. On the way, stop by the Dole pineapple factory. Get some pineapple ice cream and if you have time walk through the cool maze that they have there. There are some neat little towns along the way and at the North Shore. Sunset Beach is an awesome place to see the sun set (go figure) and has some good snorkeling. I also like the snorkeling at Shark Cove. Back in Honolulu, the tour to the top of Diamond Head is pretty cool. It is a lot of hiking if you are into that sort of deal. The view at the top is unreal. Of course you will want to go to Pearl Harbor; you will never forget it. Just up the road from there is the Hula Bowl and on Saturday or Sunday they have a huge swap meet thing. It is a great way to pick up some Hawaiian stuff for back home. If you are going to be there for a whole week, you might consider taking a trip to another island. The Big Island is my favorite; TONS of "natural" sites to see there. Hope you have a great trip. |

My advice is to take a day and do the Polynesian Culture Center. It's a whole day. You catch a bus in the morning up there, they feed you a couple of times, and bring you home that night. Don't pan anything else that day. But definitely do it. It's worth the money (cheap, really, considering what you get) |
Go see Waimea falls on the north shore while you are on that side hit Kailua and rent a canoe you can take them to an outer island. Hanauma bay is a great snorkeling location. Of course you need to go to the Polynesian cultural center. And if you like pulled pork there is a little shack right outside of Honolulu called The Big Kahuna that is amazing. I lived there for around 2 years feel free to PM me with any questions.

Do you or the soon to be ball and chain have a Dept of Defense ID? If so, I have a couple specific recommendations for you. Regardless, definitely go snorkeling in Hanauma Bay. The advice to rent a car is spot-on and will make your trip much more enjoyable (although traffic in Honolulu is bad). The Polynesian Cultural center is a lot of fun and educational. The hike up Diamondhead is worth half a day. On your trip to Pearl Harbor, don't forget to visit the Bowfink, a WWII submarine. |
Heh, been there twice, you will have a good time. Rent a car and stay in a hotel on the north shore unless you're into crowds.

We only rented a car one day, to drive to the North Shore. Otherwise we were able to walk anywhere (in Waikiki) or catch a cab. So it's up to you. The problem is that you spend so much for parking. There is such a lack of space that you can''t park anywhere, even your hotel, without paying a huge fee.

I was sent to Hawaii earlier this year for work...aug - Oct... best 2 months of my life.
All I can say is, dont stay in the hotel. Try and do everything. Some coworkers and I ran into a girl and she told us about a pub crawl. We paid $20... and a group of 30+ people were brought to 6 different bars in Waikiki in 1 night...with 1 coupon at each bar for any drink. That night's still a blur. You'll hear alot of offers on the street, especially from hookers on Kuhio .But some of the stragglers have good deals on stuff to do. |
