The Sooners lost their leading tackler and heart and soul of the defense Monday when Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Curtis Lofton announced he is entering the NFL Draft.
The junior from Kingfisher, Okla. was named a consensus All-American after recording 157 tackles, the fifth-best total in school history, in just his first year as a full-time starter.
"I'll definitely miss my coaches and teammates," Lofton said in a press release on SoonerSports.com. "I came in with my class three years ago and those guys are like brothers to me. And I'll miss playing in front of those 85,000 fans."
"Curtis made a lot of big plays during his time here," said Stoops in the press release. "We wish him all the best in the NFL."
Lofton set his career-high in tackles with 18 in the first game against Missouri. He also set a school record with nine games of double-digit tackles.
