A Day Without Spending Money

It occurred to me that I didn't spend any money yesterday. Walked to and from the office from the train station - no taxis. I swore off Starbucks about two months ago. Had a lunch meeting so food was provided by the firm. Didn't buy a soda from the machine, or stop by the store to pick anything up, or go to a restaurant or a bar. Just went to work, came home, cooked dinner and stayed in.

The odd thing is I can't remember the last time I went an entire day without buying something. It may have been weeks. Or months. Maybe years.

So, do I just piss away too much money, or is this fairly normal?

Yes, you do.

Did they let you ride the train for free?

Monthly pass. I pay for it all at once at the beginning of the month.

Every day is a day without 'spending money' for me.

One of these decades I may have to stop being poor.

It's not like I buy a new TV every day. I'm talking picking up a pack of gum, or groceries, or... anything.

If I had money to spend it would probably be on that, so it's probably a good thing I don't have any.

I can't believe I've been at work for 5 hours and done absolutely nothing. This is pathetic. Guess I'm coming in tomorrow to play catch-up.

Do you spend cash or do you use debit/credit card on all your ancillary purchases? I find I'm less likely to spend money if I have no cash in my wallet, despite the fact that I always use my card to pay for everything. It makes no sense at all, but that's how it is.

It depends. For mundane low dollar purchases I generally use cash. For most over things I'll use my AMEX which I have to pay off each month. That keeps me honest. I'll use the debit card or other credit cards generally only if I'm at a place that doesn't take the AMEX, or if I've used it too much in the month.

Flipped a light switch in your house, you spent money. Turned on the faucet or flushed the shitter, you spent money.
