***The official: What Redrum_69 wants to talk about...thread***

As clearly suggested by gonzo..here it is.

So what should I talk about today.

The Chiefs? nah, its still preseason..nothing matters until they play New England.

Your mom? nah, been there done that.

hmm..the olympics? nah, they are overrated and double standarded..

How about your job? Are you working in a profession that you have wanted to since you were a child? Why do we as kids dream about construction, driving trucks, farming, race cars, being firemen, and then when we are done with high school (some of us) we either start in an industry or go on to college. Why dont we all just work in a profession that we dreamed about as a child? Is there something that is stopping us? Are there individuals tellig us we arent able to do that sort of work? That we arent qualified?

When you were a child, what did you want to be? Stuck in a cubicle hell dealing with politics? Whatever happened to wanting to be an engineer working for LEGO?

Because if we all did what we dreamed about when we were a little kid....then there would be like a billion firemen and nobody working in offices creating shit that we all need.

I'm kind of glad that I never became a professional BMX rider.

I just wanted to be an NFL player....but I grew up too short...and too white.

Sh*t happens.

As a child, I wanted to grow up to be an international playboy.

Of course, I could never fulfill that dream for our family was poor. Anyway, I struggled with this for several years until I decided to just pick up and go on with my life and, rather than actually become an international playboy, I instead subscribed to Botswana's version of Playboy; Goat Herder Quarterly.

I think that life happens. Some go with the flow, while others make things happen. I didn't dream of doing what I'm doing. I just ended up here through decisions and necessity.

What did I want to be when I was little? A stay at home wife/mother and published author.

Frosty 08-20-2008 12:34 PM

I honestly don't remember what I wanted to do as a little kid. For a while, around junior high age, I wanted to go to the Air Force Academy and become a pilot. Even made a trip to Colorado Springs to visit after the 8th grade. In high school, I decided on accounting/business but that fell through when I got to college and hated my accounting classes.

Dicked around for a while and finally went back to school and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering at the age of 30 and have been working in that field ever since. Took the long way around, I guess.

My wife is living your fantasy. The wife/mother thing I assume is very rewarding. The published author... she has published 10 book, 11th on the way. Unless Oprah reads it, it's not a very lucrative career. But it's perfect for a stay at home Mom.

As a kid I didn't really have any thoughts of what I want to be when I grow up. I couldn't find anything I loved until I was a Sr in high school. I was in a school play called See How They Run. It's a comedy. The first time one of my lines made the audience laugh, I new I wanted to be a performer. I was able to follow that dream for about 15 years and absolutely loved it. I became a fairly big fish in a small pond. Then I moved to CA to continue pursuing the dream but at a different level. Didn't work out. I have a nice career going here, but it doesn't fulfill my passion. At least I had 15 years of it though. When I retire, I'll hit the community theaters and find my passion again.

Now that you mention it, I do remember wanting to be an artist when I was a kid. I still dabble in it. How can we see a sample of your work?

I pursued that career path for a while, Mr. Deberg_1990. Made it as far as an audition. But when I got there, they asked me to take my clothes off and I got embarrassed and went home. Rude bastards. That's a tough industry.

I had a similar experience. On my very first day they told me to have hot, wild monkey sex with this great looking girl. Sounded like my dream job until I found out they were all going to hang around and watch. I said, "Hey you pervs, I'm outta here!" and that was the end of that.
