Grade the Positions .... Week 1 .... Offensive Line
Trying to gauge the board on how the Chiefs did by positions (IE Special Team, OL, DL, Linebackers, TE's, etc.) I would like to do this on a weekly basis so how would you grade this weeks performance only.
We have a thread on Special Teams, and now moving to Offensive Line. How would you grade our Offensive Line performance in Week 1 against the Patriots? Poll to Follow. |
We couldn't open any holes for LJ and allowed to much pressure on the QBs giving up 4 sacks. The good thing I think our o line will improve weekly and if we make a change at RT it could maybe recieve much higher grades as the season progresses. D

This is a tough one because of the disparity between the sides of the line. I'd give the right side a C- and the left an B.

B-, especially graded on the curve of what I expected. Albert scored an A/B+ probably on anyones gradebook. Niswanger started his first regular season game at center. He will be learning. Waters played fairly well, as usual. More problems on the right side, unfortunately.
They had problems openning holes in the middle against a very good run defense line. But, Charles had success, as did LJ when he could bounce it outside. If we could just get some help on the right side, this would certainly not be a weakness for us. |
It's pretty amazing what Albert was able to do against Richard Seymour considering that he's a rookie that missed all of training camp. Right now Clady is getting all the rookie left tackle hype but Albert just might turn out to be an elite player.

Sign a halfway decent offensive lineman or two in the offseason and this wouldn't have been a problem. It's amazing with how good the left side of our line actually was the line as a whole sucked because the right side dragged down the overall performance. Free agency is not the answer to building a good team but it can sure help, especially when the health of your quarterback is at risk behind a bad line. Jacob Bell or Justin Smiley at right guard would have helped alot.

meh ... ok
hard to tell with all the offensive suckage going around run blocking was mediocre ... pass blocking was a little better |
can we vote again the week Herb Taylor starts at RT?
I gave them a C-. I think some you guys are being awful generous. I didn't grade on a curve, rather judging from the As and A+s we witnessed with Roaf, Waters. Weigmann and Shields anchoring this line. This line has a long ways to go in that regard. However, even my C- I gave thgem exceeded my expectations. One of the tougher defensive fronts in the league, and they seemed to hold their own fairly well. |
Albert - A
Everyone else - F Overall - D-minus |
Wow, I didn't remember 4 sacks but I guess there were. I remember the one that took out Croyle, and one on Huard, that he should have been able to escape. Were the other 2 on Huard?
