Chiefs' TE Tony Gonzalez says: Make me a Giant
BY RALPH VACCHIANO DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Tuesday, October 14th 2008, 4:00 AM CLEVELAND - Tony Gonzalez wants the Giants, but do the Giants want him? That question will be answered by 4p.m. Tuesday , when the NFL's trading deadline arrives. Gonzalez, the future Hall of Fame tight end, has requested a trade from the Kansas City Chiefs. And not only has he asked to be traded to a contender, but he specifically mentioned the Giants. So far, the Giants have only expressed a lukewarm interest, reportedly offering a sixth-round pick. According to various reports, the Chiefs are looking for either a second- or a third-rounder. Giants GM Jerry Reese declined to confirm or deny those reports, saying only, "We investigate everything. You guys know that." The Eagles, Bills, Packers and Buccaneers all have been mentioned as possible suitors. BEATEN MAN: Aaron Ross knows he needs to forget about Monday night quickly. He also knows that won't be easy. The Giants' second-year corner was on the receiving end of a flurry of knockout punches from Cleveland Browns receiver Braylon Edwards, who torched Ross for 154 yards and a touchdown on five catches in the Browns' 35-14 win. Ross let Edwards slip through his hands for a 49-yard catch in the first quarter, and later was turned around and burned on a 70-yard reception. The final indignity came in the fourth quarter when Edwards caught an 11-yard touchdown pass after Ross fell the ground with cramps in his calf. "He's a Pro Bowl player," Ross said. "But I feel like I've got to step it up a little better. Guys are putting their trust in me. I've got to play better next time." LAME NIGHT: LB Antonio Pierce started Monday night despite not being able to practice all week because of an injured quad. But he immediately aggravated the injury and was pulled for the second series. He later returned, but appeared that the injury was still bothering him. "I'm 100%," Pierce insisted after the game. "I'm alive. That's all that matters." S James Butler suffered a biceps injury in the second quarter but later returned. His left arm was heavily wrapped after the game. LB Gerris Wilkinson suffered a knee strain. KICKED ASIDE: K Lawrence Tynes is healthy and went through his pregame warmup routine again, but the Giants once again went with 44-year-old kicker John Carney. ... WR Sinorice Moss, one week after scoring two touchdowns, was inactive Monday night |
well John Clayton was just on Mike and Mike and said that any trade involving Tony is looking unlikely now unless the Eagles step up and make and offer by the deadline

Giants don't wanna give anything. They will have personnel issues sooner than later.
again our mis-mgmt of the drafts are killing us. |
A 6th round pick? What a joke!
|
Mt brain says deal Gonzo for his possibility of winning a SB, but my heart tells me something is terribly, awfully wrong at One Arrowhead Drive if we are even thinking about dealing one of the top 5 Chiefs players of all time. Yes, I'd put him up there with Lenny and Willie Lanier.
|
This franchise has fallen into hell.
|
Not enough time left to make anything happen. Tony and LJ are stuck here, just like the rest of us.
|
I'm surprised Buffalo isn't stepping up. They have a nice window to win the east this year.
|
I dont think the Giants really need TG all that much to be honest. Thats why they are lowballing the offer.

They should have made these deals during the off season. You don't try to do it less than a week before the trading deadline and expect to get value. Our management is pathetic.
|
This franchise has lost it's burst.
|
I hope the deal gets done.
Wish it was as easy to trade me to a decent team, but I've tried, and other than lukewarm interest in the Bears it just doesn't work. I'm stuck with these assholes. |
I don't see why the Giants wouldn't be willing to part with more. As competitive as the NFC east is. He would make a huge difference in their red zone offense. I think there's a good chance they know what a hardass Carl Peterson is and are playing tough up until the 11th hour. I think Tony would thrive in the Giants offense.

This has nothing to do with the Chiefs or Carl Peterson.
Until he asked for it, it would have been ridiculous to consider trading MeMe Gonzalez. He was the one that waited till very late to request a deal. If he can't be dealt for a pick worth having, then he can play out that contract he happily signed. |
