Sunday's NFL Games

Statements from the NFL
(Sept. 11, 2001)

"Regarding Sunday's games, we will make no decision today [Tuesday]. We'll gather information and speak to several parties within the next 24 to 48 hours." — NFL spokesman Joe Browne

"During this time of tragedy, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this terrible event. We are in contact with the NFL regarding the decision-making process surrounding this weekend's games, and until we have a definitive word from the league, as difficult as it may be, our staff is preparing to play this Sunday." — Dolphins president Eddie Jones

Anyone think they might cancel games this weekend due to fear of more attacks?

Frazod 09-11-2001 03:01 PM

Dude, this is not the time to worry about friggin football.

Bwana 09-11-2001 03:02 PM

Play the games! Don't let the bastards win!

HC_Chief 09-11-2001 03:04 PM

I agree. this was absolutely tragic - and it will NOT go unresolved.

However, we cannot allow this action to shut us down!

gh4chiefs 09-11-2001 03:05 PM

Frazod,

I hope they don't cancel the games and it has absolutely nothing to do with football. It's about showing those bastards that life goes on. Yes they can kill 10's of thousands Americans in one attack, but they can't kill the American spirit or the American way of life. Yes oil supplies will probably be short now and prices will sky rocket, but our spirit lives on.

Dude,

Relax, I hadn't even thought about football this weekend until I read this thread. You're right, I'm shocked as you are and this is all I can think about. I just can't wait until I go home so I can see what they're saying on tv. At work, I have not tv or radio and can only rely on the internet. I really don't want to be here today.

Frazod 09-11-2001 03:11 PM

I agree that we should try to minimize the effect of this crap on our daily lives. I was thinking that while leaving my office for the train station today wondering if Sears Tower was going to explode and land on my fucking head. Its a big picture issue. We need to concentrate on what's important, and in the face of everything that has happened and could result, football ain't important right now. At all.

Frazod 09-11-2001 03:13 PM

Izen, I didn't mean that as anything personal against you. We're all a bit on edge today. Sorry if you took it wrong.

Ethelyn 09-11-2001 03:13 PM

I wasn't trying to be crude, because I know this weekend's football games aren't important, but I just wanted the curious to know what was going on.

gh4chiefs 09-11-2001 03:16 PM

Football is not important. Protecting our way of life is.

Ethelyn 09-11-2001 03:18 PM

No sir, I fully understand and I ain't mad. Life is too short.

Clint in Wichita 09-11-2001 03:30 PM

They played football during WWII, and they should play again Sunday.

Cancelling the games will do nothing but give those dirty little bastard children in Marty McDonald's thread another reason to celebrate.

Play the damn games.
