Is this an unusual level of vacancies?
Seems like there have been a TON of teams announcing coaches/GM's getting fired in the past couple days. Is this fairly usual at the end of the season, or is this year especially different in some way?
I don't recall there being so many people getting canned, but maybe it's just because we're looking that I'm noticing. Regardless, looks like there will be a lot of competition for the top "talent" this year. It'll be interesting to see Clark's approach to the whole thing. |
seems like everyone is chasing cowher

a few years ago they had a bunch of firings too

IIRC there was one year not too long ago where 6 were fired on "Black Monday".

I think you are just noticing it more because you have an opening.
In the beginning of 07, when Marty's firing was inevitable, and all the good HC had been scooped up, and the Bolts lost Cam Cameron and Wade Philips it seemed like everyone was looking. |
Adam Schefter made a good point on NFLN yesterday.
The NFL has averaged 6.5 firings a year for over 2 decades. He said there hasn't been a 2 year span where 13 coaches weren't turned over in a long time. Like clockwork. He said you can almost count on 9 coaches getting the ax this year since only 4 did last year. It's starting to look like he could be right. |
It has been said that it is almost a certainty that a little more than 6 teams will make a coaching change per year. Not really sure about GMs.

With so many teams turning things around in 1 year this year that has to have alot of owners asking "why not here?"
I think miami, atl, baltimore etc just made a head coaches job harder than it was 1 year ago today. |
