Best Chiefs by Decade

I have an idea for an improvement to the Planet, but I'm only a n00b in the broader scheme of the Chiefs history, so I need some help.

If you had to pick one or two players (or coaches) from each decade in the Chiefs history to make a "top 10" list of all-time Chiefs, who might they be?

EDIT: OK, I decided to go with a different approach. Rather than create a "slideshow" gif, I just added a little script that will pick a random image from the folder each time you load the page. That way, I can just add images as they're made rather than having to create a new slideshow every time.

My current plan is to try and get one for everyone in the Chiefs HOF in there. We'll see where I go from there, but if anyone has any pics that they feel are "iconic" in Chiefs history, post them here and I'll get them in the rotation.

1960's: Len Dawson, Willie Lanier. Coach: Hank Stram

1970's: Gary Barbaro, Jack Budde. Coach: Marv Levy

1980's: Deron Cherry, Albert Lewis. Coach: John Mackovic

1990's: Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith. Coach: Marty

2000's: Priest Holmes, Tony Gonzalez. Coach: Dick Vermeil

I couldn't get it down to 10, because I couldn't leave out Lamar.

1960's: Lamar Hunt, Hank Stram, Buck Buchanan, Bobby Bell

1970's: Willie Lanier, Emmitt Thomas

1980's: Joe Delaney, Deron Cherry

1990's: Derrick Thomas, Will Shields

2000's: Tony Gonzalez

I agree with both of these posts.

If I had to pick one offense and one defense....

1960s: Buck Buchanan, Otis Taylor
1970s: Willie Lanier, Jack Rudnay
1980s: Art Still, Christian Okoye
1990s: Derrick Thomas, John Alt
2000s: Tony Gonzalez, Jared Allen

If offense and defense didn't matter...

1960s: Buck Buchanan, Otis Taylor (apologies to half a dozen players, particularly Bobby Bell)
1970s: Willie Lanier, Emmitt Thomas (apologies to Jack Rudnay)
1980s: Art Still, Deron Cherry (apologies to Albert Lewis)
1990s: Derrick Thomas, John Alt (apologies to Will Shields and Neil Smith)
2000s: Tony Gonzalez, Priest Holmes

And Jack Budde? Tsk, tsk, people.

I'm interested in what "improvement to the planet" will come from this list, if we are in fact able to agree on 10.

The 60's? You could throw a dart onto that roster and find great players.

There was no Jack Budde in the 70's. There was however an Ed Budde. And to be honest, I consider him one of the great anchors of those 60's teams. So the 70's were all terrible players.

80's: Gary Green maybe. Barbaro. Maybe Lowry. I guess Mackovic since he made the playoffs.

90's Thomas. Smith.

You'd have to include Abner Haynes in the 60s.

During the 80s, Art Still and Deron Cherry were by far the best players for the Chiefs.
I don't even consider it debatable.

The rest of the suggestions seem pretty good.

See the upper-right corner. It's still a work in progress to an point, and I know that I'll never have everyone that people think should be included, but it's a start.

To me these are 2 different lists.
"top 10" list of all-time Chiefs
The above would include at the least 6-7 players and stram from that era.
The chiefs top players of other era's may not be in the top 25 chiefs of all time.

True. I guess my vision was "Chiefs through the ages." As you mentioned, if it were truly the "best" players, it would be a bunch of players from the super bowl team, then no one, then MAYBE DT and Tony G. That's why I chose to place the constraint - it's much more interesting to show history when you ensure players from a variety of time periods.

But like I said, it'll never be perfect.

And you have to think about it because like some music you would associate with the 60's actually came out post 70. I guess I would think the SB team is 60's because thats when I started following them but they played into the 70's. For me the post stram to marty era was a deep dark period i dont think about often.
