Sims staying in Tampa

http://pewterreport.com/articles/view/5203

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been active in the weeks leading up to the start of free agency on February 27. After re-signing quarterback Luke McCown and placing the franchise tag on wide receiver Antonio Bryant, the Bucs re-signed defensive tackle Ryan Sims to a four-year deal on Thursday morning. Financial terms of the deal for Sims, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offeason, were not disclosed.

Sims has been in the league for seven years, appearing in 83 games with 38 career starts. He has played in 24 games for the Buccaneers with two starts since being acquired by Tampa Bay in a trade with Kansas City two years ago.

The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Sims has the size that new defensive coordinator Jim Bates is looking for at the defensive tackle position. Sims has posted 50 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble in his Buccaneers career. In 2007, Sims’ four tackles for a loss led the team.

With Sims’ return, the Buccaneers have two remaining defensive linemen still unsigned from the 2008 team, starting under tackle Jovan Haye and starting left defensive end Kevin Carter.

Sims was Kansas City’s first-round draft pick (sixth overall) in 2002 out of North Carolina where he teamed with current Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers.

4 tackles for loss led team?
Is that normal? Seems awfully low.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

I thought Ryan Sims was staying in Tampa Bay because, like that 700-pound Mexican man, he was too fat to even walk anywhere.

And donut sales will remain robust in the Tampa area for another four years...

If Sims is considered a treasure I got a toilet bowl full of GOLD for the Bucs!

I guess they really wanted him for his ability to jump onto piles well after the actual tackling that have at least two other TB players and one from the other team, and not get called for it Sims is like Chris Farley in Beverly Hills Ninja. Wait, no, he's not as cool as Chris Farley....

Within the context of talking about Sims, the saying goes, "One man's trash is another man's... trash."
