Predict Some Combine Risers/Sliders
Before the workouts begin, step up and name who you think will rise and who you think will slide at the combine.
Risers: Michael Johnson - He's been sliding like mad since September. The fall has to stop. J. Freeman - Analysts fall in love with size and arm strength every combine. J. Smith - He'll show good feet for the LOT. K. Moreno - Not much talk about him the last month. Sliders: Michael Oher Justin Harrell, or Graham Harrell Ray Maualuga |
Justin Harrell? Didn't you mean Graham Harrell?
Risers: Jarron Gilbert DE/DT San Jose State- He'll likely be the most athletic DT or 3-4 DE by a significant margin. Brian Cushing - He doesn't play real fast and that hasn't hurt him - I wouldn't be surprised if he times a lot better than expected and that will probably help him. Shawn Nelson- TE - Southern Miss - He's a speedy receiving TE. The hype has been a little light on him thus far, wouldn't be suprised to see that change. Mitch King - DT - He already started tearing it up at the Sr. Bowl. Would't be suprised to see him look like one of the more athletic tackles. Lawrence Sidbury Jr.: Richmond (6-3, 267) - Just a guess but at the Sr. Bowl he had the look of a guy who would excel at a track meet. Greg Isdaner- G - West Virginia - 6'4 330 - Hasn't been talked about much but is as solid and agile a 330 pounder as you'll likely see. Fallers Andre Smith (just a guess there will start to be a lot of questions about his weight) Michael Johnson: Georgia Tech (6-7, 260) - He's already started to fall but less than stellar measurables could really do him in and there aren't many 6'7 guys who excel in agilities and sprints. But, who knows, he might end up having a Mario Williams type of workout. |
Guys like Everette Brown, Larry English, Maybin, and Curry will rise when they run their 40s and drills
Orakpo might slide. Ron Brace, who some consider the #2 dt(not many anymore) will look unathletic and slide. Crabtree not running doesn't help but whenever he does run he will probably slide a little. |
Hakeem Nicks and Michael Johnson into the upper first round.
|
I would say the opposite on Nicks. The only reason he has crept into the late first round in some mocks is because of his monster bowl game. Before that, he was looked at as a nice player but never a first round talent.
I think the workouts will help Orakpo more than hurt him too. He is a freak in the weight room. But, good thing for us, Pioli wants players that produce on the football field and not in shorts and a Tshirt in the weight room. |

I don't think he'll move I guess. He'll still be the #1 linebacker (not counting rush backers), I wouldn't call that a slider.
