Shawn Zobel: Lions are in serious dealings with Cassel

Inside Info

I had the chance to speak with one of my sources down here in Indianapolis. Here’s what he had to say:

- The Lions are currently seriously considering dealing for Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel. According to my source, New England is “actively looking to deal him.”

- Malcolm Jenkins’ 40-yard dash is going to be one of the biggest of the Combine. If he runs a 4.5 or slower, many teams will feel that his best fit at the next level will be safety. There’s talk that he could slide to the middle-to-late first round.

- The Broncos new staff is not going to continue to draft the smaller, quicker offensive linemen. They are looking to get somewhat bigger along the offensive line.

- If Knowshon Moreno runs a 4.4 40-yard dash or faster, he could be the first running back taken…followed by Pitt’s LeSean McCoy.

- Andre Smith’s stock is dropping. Teams are not happy that he decided not to work. Based solely on today, Jason Smith is beginning to look like one of the top tackles in this year’s draft.

- The Vikings talking about keeping both Gus Frerotte and Tarvaris Jackson could mean that they plan on drafting another quarterback this year. With Josh Freeman creeping into the first round discussion, he could be an option.

Hmm Mecca your thoughts?

Moreno as I mentioned in the combine thread is doing everything right, he weighed 217 so he's bigger than was thought, he's pushing Wells.

But McCoy has a problem he only weighs 197lbs...McCoy is going to be the 3rd back taken the question is can he entice a team like Arizona at the back of round 1 to do it or does he fall into the 2nd...

Jenkins 40 time is a big deal, I make no bones about that for any WR or CB that single thing will make or break you.

Do you still think outside a QB he's the only other player worthy of our 1st? If no is it now Vonte Davis?

Depends...there are still factors we don't know..

The fact that Michael Crabtree is reminding me more and more of Peter Warrick everyday, not overly fast, shorter than expected. Isn't helping him either.

Sweet. Stafford is ours!

Sure would suck to go from the Patriots to the Lions...

If he gets a huge contract I doubt he's going to complain to much, and he will have a WR who is athletically comparable to Moss.

He will have 10-13 million reasons a year to feel pretty good about playing in the s*&^ hole known as Detroit.

Yea Id choke a bitch if we took Crabtree with our first.

If what is being said about DHB is true he's going to sky rocket....

He apparently measured taller than Crabtree and is running 4.2's in workouts.
