How's the AL East going to end up?

Poll coming.

My prediction, mixed in with a deal of hope:

1. Red Sox
2. Rays
3. Yankees
4. Baltimore
5. Toronto

Yep, Yankees, despite the new rotation, miss out again, because on top of aging position players, the Rays are for real, and the Red Sox are too good to miss.

1. Red Sox
2. Yankees
3. Rays
4. Jays
5. O's

The same could be said in part, for the Sox pitching. I am by no means a Yanks or Sox fan. Kind of loath them both equally. The Sox rotation could be filthy. But, there are also question marks there. Beckett, when healthy is as good as any RHP in baseball. But, he has not been that Beckett for some time now. Dice-K walked the tight rope last season with runners on base and avoiding disaster most of the time. That is not a recipe for success. I understand his never give in approach and he is always nibbling at the corners. Lester IMO will be their best starter this season.

Yanks will have issues in the OF and I would not be surprised to see them make a bid at throwing more money at the problem trying to acquire Holliday before the trade deadline if the A's are out of it. Texeira has never been a great player. He has always been a good player. We shall see how he handles the limelight in NY. Cano will never be as good as was originally thought. Can Sabathia pitch like he did the second half of last year and can Burnett stay healthy? If Burnett stays healthy, he will be huge. Throughout his career, he has killed the AL East, Sox included.

Tampa has as much young talent as pretty much any team in the league. Longoria, Upton, Garza, and Kazmir. Pena is underrated at 1B even with his Ks. Crawford very well bounce back.

This is probably the toughest division race of any to call this year, but I will go:
  1. Red Sox
  2. Yankees
  3. Rays

Jethopper 03-25-2009 05:26 PM

who cares about stupid bandwagon fans. Go royals!

Royals fans have to take particular interest in the Rays. We're very similar in what our club can and can't do.

I don't like the Yankees, but I respect the tradition both they and the Red Sox bring to baseball, and recognize the top competition the AL East has. It will be exciting to follow.

But, as always, never failing, always hopeful, go Royals.
