Well **** me!

About a year ago my 360 got the 'unplayable disc error'...it's a first gen 360, but since I absolutely despise Microsoft and their customer service, I decided to fix it myself (take off the cover, void the warranty, dab a little super glue on the bolt, problem fixed!)

Well I was playing Halo 3 (like usual) and boom, system error, RROD!

Voided warranty...

I'm ****ed.

...

Life sucks.

So when I buy a core system (already have a 120 GB hard drive) will my hard drive still be cool or is it the reason why my system red lighted?

This sucks. First time it has happened to me...I know I've been lucky since my system is a 1st gen system.

Hootie 04-01-2009 04:31 PM

Actually, it is not the RROD...it is just 1 red ring...what does that mean?

Hootie 04-01-2009 04:34 PM

God damnit...this console is just ****ed. I wish I never would have fixed it myself...I'm an idiot.

The Franchise 04-01-2009 04:36 PM

Did the hard drive come from your first system or was it purchased separately?

Buck 04-01-2009 04:37 PM

I'll sell you my 360.

I just bought it and I haven't been using it as much as I hoped.

Plus I could use the money.

Bought it on March 3 I believe.

I bought it all from a guy on Ebay...it was a first gen system...I bought it two January's ago. It was a good run, I suppose. I think it's the console because when I unplug all of the controllers and hard drive the console still flashes one red light...meaning (according to what I've read) the console is ****ed.

It means you were ****ed anyway. No three rings, no extended warranty. So you don't have to feel as bad.

Microsoft is the debbil!

ust got off the phone with Xbox 360 Tech Support. The "One Ring of Death, E 74 Error" problem does not fall under the three year extended warranty plan. The tech support guy was really nice and gave me a detailed run down of what I need to do: Send an email with proof of purchase to [email protected] and have my account details updated. Then re-ring Xbox 360 Tech Support and try again.

I asked the Tech Support guy's opinion was and whether he thought it was likely my Xbox 360 would need to be sent in - he reckoned that this would very likely be the case. I performed all the necessary checks to ensure that it was indeed the GPU that died and it really looks that way so far.

It's not life threatening at all and I don't doubt it'll all get sorted eventually, it's just a bit of an inconvenience. My cousin's Xbox 360 died like... one week ago. He had to buy a new new though so I guess I should count myself lucky that I should be able to get mine fixed.

If not, I'll just buy a brand new Xbox 360 Elite.

I got the red ring and flipped hard drives with no problem...the hard drive is separate from your console unless of course you take it off and it works.

Kclee 04-01-2009 04:38 PM

If it's not the RROD then it's only 1 year warranty. 3 years if RROD. Sometimes unplugging everything including HD, then putting it all back together works. Sometimes.

I'll probably buy a refurbished core on Ebay...I think if I try hard enough I can get the console only...no cords, no controllers, etc...for $100.

Oh cool.

Good Luck, hope you don't get a POS.

Hootie 04-01-2009 04:41 PM

I knew it was going to happen...I never put the case back on after I took it off to fix it initially...and although I keep it properly ventilated, it does collect dust like crazy and it really is a piece of shit.

It just sucks because it will be at least 6 weeks before I can replace this one...and I do a lot of stuff on the 360 that isn't video game related.

Risk I'm willing to take I guess. I don't feel like paying $200 for an Arcade...I already have 4 controllers...well shit, I guess I could fork over $50 and just sell a few controllers on Amazon.

Whatever...it's going to take 6 weeks before I have the money anyways...maybe I'll be more active over the next month and a half.

I could be wrong but if you send it in to be fixed it will be $99. Plus should be free shipping. Might be a little more safe.

If I showed you a picture of my gutted 360, you would see why I am ready to move on LMAO

I think I am going to sell my hard drive and my network adapted ($150 profit) and spend $220 for the 60GB 360 deal they have going on Amazon...

If it comes with a controller I can sell off a controller or two and pretty much break even.

We'll see.
