Looking for advice on a data phone

I am looking to upgrade to a data phone, but am on a limited budget. I am considering a Moto Q 9c($9.99 after rebate). I know it has windows mobile. Is that the way to go. Or is the blackberry better? What about tethering. Alltel charges $30/ month to tether, but I have been told that you can use your software for that using the blackberry without incurring the monthly fee. Can you do that with the Q?

I have a Q for my work. It doesn't run "windows mobile" but rather a watered down version of windows making it a smartphone rather than a true mobile PC. But to answer your question, mine does have a tether option on it. But its the Sprint version of the software... Each company has a diffrent set of software included.

Blackberry is not going to give you anywhere close to as cheap of a data plan as a WM phone. Blackberry is pretty expensive, and will cost you much more than a WM tether option. However, I don't think tethering is even possible on the Q9c without 3rd party software, which I'm not sure you could even install.

You're not going to find an incredibly cheap option that allows you to tether the connection easily. Sadly you usually have to pay well for that option. Either by data plan or otherwise.

Everybody that has a data phone, download skyfire. It is by far, the best and fastest browser I have ever seen in my life. You can watch you tube, play flash movies without having flash because it's using a host computer, or something like that. Try it, you won't regret it

Due to the server side hosting latency that skyfire has, it won't ever be as fast as other mobile browsers. But yes, it is the shit. Not in any way the fastest though.....

What is faster? Microsoft's internet mobile explorer is HORRIBLE. It is extremely slow and doesn't even really display the page right and is not user friendly. You would think a company like Microsoft would be able to make a mobile browser worth a sh*t but no. I've tried alot of other browsers with similar results. I used to use opera, which worked well but froze my phone up to hell all the time. No such issues with skyfire, and I don't notice a difference in speed at all.

Just my experience, but I would stay away from Windows Mobile if you can. On my device it's slow to change between apps and slow to respond to key presses sometimes, and has some quirky behaviors... well, basically think about windows. then think about your phone working like windows.

Probably just annoyances but if I had it to do over again I'd go with something else.

I have tethering on my Q9c... It's simply called Internet Sharing...

**** IE. Opera is hands down the best. It doesn't do near the media capabilities that Skyfire does, but it's much much faster. Skyfire hosting everything server side will never compete. The technology makes it next to impossible. Skyfire is a great alternative when you need flash or youtube BS, but other than that it's slower than the alternatives.

You can't do it without either paying for "phone as modem" plan or using something like PDAnet.
