Reason we couldn't run the ball effectively last season?
we weren't a team with a vertical passing game? Opposing defenders played closer to the line right?
|
Basically it started with Herm and his lack of football fundamentals...

When your offense doesn't have balance and/or unpredictability is always makes everything look worse.
|
when you run the ball on 1st down 97% of the time, it makes it hard to move the LOS to the defensive side.
Combine with virtually zero receiving deep 'threat' (as you mentioned), there was no fear in bringing 8+ into the box. |
Herm ran all day long into 9 man fronts against Indy. It never worked but he kept doing it.

Um, Niswanger, Smith/Jones & ScIntosh.
If the right side of your offensive line (the power side) can't open holes, your running game is going to suffer. Especially in the Red Zone. Football 101. |
Not to be a dick but google did you watch the games? It's pretty obvious.

Our YPC went up when we went pistol, but that's because nobody expected (nor should they have) us to run. But we still couldn't run it effectively when we needed to. Posted via Mobile Device |
terrible talent on the OL coupled with 1/3 of a uncarring, out of shape running back corp.

Um guess what they're still gonna play close to the line the Chiefs don't have any WR that will demand a double, the line isn't good enough to hold blocks long enough for the WR's to get downfield...and we don't have any real vertical threat.

Basically when you're one dimensional like we were last season, it's hard to win, when opposing teams stack the box and have make your 7th rd pick starting QB beat them. No offense to Thigpen last season because I think he did a good job to be honest, but we had to play with the hand that was dealt to us, we didn't have a good Oline to top it off, and it lead to defenses stacking 8-9 people in the box.

Next on googlegoogle:
The reason Herm and Carl were axed? Why do you all think Herm and Carl were axed? |
I think if it werent for Adrian Jones and Herm Edwards we would have had a top ranked rushing game in terms of yardage and general production.
Let me explain. Herm not only ran into 8-9 man fronts but wouldnt deviate his playcalling enough to stop attacking the right a gap when we were clearly outmatched when doing so. Foolish. We ended with the second highest per carry average rushing in the NFL (according to nfl.com), so we were productive, just not consistant. Having Haley instead of Herm and Goff inwtead of Jones should help us return to having an effective and productive rushing attack. |
