The Wife and I are heading to Reno

I'll be largely invisible after tonight until next weekend. Anyone been there? Anything we absolutely have to see? I've booked a champagne cruise off of Lake Tahoe for Tuesday night, and am confident the wife is going to love it. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you like old silver mining towns you could head up to Virginia City sip a cold one in the Bucket Of Blood Saloon.

Of course there are several Cat Houses in the neighborhood but I wouldn't recommend that type of excursion to the wife.

You could shoot a man, just to watch him die...

This begs the question... Mr. Flopnuts, are you looking for "Family fun" or a "good time".

I found the Ultimate Rush to be a blast. http://www.grandsierraresort.com/act...ultimate_rush/ It is at the Grand Sierra Resort, which by the way is a nice place to stay.

if you go to reno proper, watch out for the seedy underbelly. that, and never eat breakfast at the place that has a grind room. just......not a good idea.

Thank you. It's been far too long since we've been able to wander off so care free. This is our first vacation in almost 4 years.

Both. Obviously being a married guy in the traditional sense I'll be avoiding places like the one listed below. :D

Reno sucks dick - it's a nasty little high desert town that is nothing more than a life support system for the casinos.

Tahoe, however, is magnificent. Too bad they're 45 minutes apart. They have a riverboat-style boat that takes you across to Emerald Bay - that was awesome. I wish I'd had more time to spend exploring that area.

If I ever go back, I'll stay at one of the Tahoe hotels and only use Reno for the airport.

Yeah, I'm using Reno as a means of cheap lodging. We'll be outdoors and spending a great deal of time at Tahoe and Emerald Bay. That's actually where the champagne cruise I booked is at.

Hope the two of you have a great time, dude.

Safe travels.

And a word of warning - there is a big lake north of Reno on an Indian reservation called Spirit Lake - looks as big as Tahoe on the map and you'd think it might be interesting, but DO NOT GO THERE. There are no services, nothing to do, and reservation cops who will give you speeding tickets without radar guns, because they can just tell how fast you're driving (apparently it's some spiritual thing).

I think it's fair to say that Indians who live on reservations in states where gambling is legal are a little pissed off and best avoided.
