Chiefs buzz: Team’s injury list is a long one

Chiefs buzz: Team’s injury list is a long one

Injury list is long

The Chiefs had one of the lengthiest injury lists of their preseason at practice Monday. In addition to quarterback Matt Cassel, seven players were missing: cornerback Brandon Flowers, safety Bernard Pollard, linebacker Zach Thomas, wide receivers Devard Darling and Amani Toomer, running back Kolby Smith and tight end Jake O’Connell.

All but Cassel and Darling were conditioning on a corner of the practice field while their teammates went through drills. Flowers had a shoulder heavily wrapped.

The presence of an injured player on the practice field usually indicates he isn’t expected to be out for long. So the absence of Darling, a starting receiver, was ominous.

He injured his knee during Saturday night’s loss to Seattle and is a candidate to go on the injured-reserve list.

Darling was replaced as the starter in practice by Mark Bradley. Rookie Donald Washington replaced Flowers, while Mike Brown stood in for Pollard.

More changes in depth chart

The Chiefs issued a new depth chart Monday, and it included some starting-lineup changes. Jon McGraw is listed as the starter at free safety instead of Jarrad Page, while Demorrio Williams is a starter at one inside linebacker spot instead of Derrick Johnson.

McGraw and Williams were both with the first team during practice.

Page didn’t suit up for the loss to Seattle, so his demotion could be a disciplinary measure. Neither he nor coach Todd Haley would discuss Page’s situation.

Johnson missed practice last week because of an injury and didn’t play against the Seahawks but returned to practice Monday.

Williams made 10 tackles last game.

Mike Brown should stand in for Pollard the rest of the season until the Chiefs draft Taylor Mays in the draft.

If John McGraw ever really starts a game that will be a really sad thing to see.

We're going to have to beat him with his own Mojo Bag, aren't we?

GoChiefs; you are BARRED from using that phrase when referring to players on this team. You may only swing that stick against the opposition.

So what's wrong with Toomer?

Bob Dole 09-01-2009 05:37 AM

But Bob Dole thought all our past injury problems had been because of Herm's soft workouts and Hardass Haley's way was going to make it all better?

He should be banned from using that pharse just in general, it never fails when he cites that line KC's starters drop like flies.
