Question about gifs.

I have an HP desktop at work. Brand new.

It has 6 gigs of Ram. I run Autodesk Inventor on it. Along with Flash, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and all the rest of the CS3 programs.
Basically, It's a pretty powerful machine.
At home I have a 2003 dual gig G4 mac, with 1 gig of ram.

How come gifs on my CPU at work run kind of choppy, and slow, and all gifs run in real time, very fast, and never pause, or stop on my Mac?

Just a question. Do Macs really just run that much smoother? And it's not just the gifs. It seems like any program that I run on the mac, or any video I watch seems to run better on the less powerful mac. Why?

Just curious what you guys think.

No, Macs do not run that much smoother.

At first I was going to say it was a browser issue (I assume you're talking about viewing them in a browser) but you started talking about other stuff running slow.

exact same scenario, here. I use the G4 as well, i'm guessing memory, which browser do you use?

Simply Red 09-12-2009 01:08 PM

also, do you store a lot of music and pics?

ferrarispider95 09-12-2009 01:10 PM

open taskmgr watch your cpu and memory while running the cpu

I use firefox at home on the Mac, and Google Chrome at work, but I've used other browsers at work, and gifs are always slow.

It doesn't matter how many gifs are displayed on the mac, they are always fast, and never stutter.

I have TONS of music, pictures, etc. on my Mac. I have never downloaded anything on my HP at work.

And FTR my mac does not have enough power to run Autodesk Inventor.
You need at least 4 gigs for that program to run right.

The things that run smoother on the mac, are any videos embeded here on CP, gifs, things like that. Flash, and such don't run as well on the Mac as they do on the HP because it doesn't have the ram for it.

I'd also like to add, that i have gone through 4 CPUs in 5 years at work, and i don't download stuff on them.
I downlaod shit constantly on my Mac, have had it since 2003, and have never had a virus,(Norton been expired for 3 years) and the only problem I've ever had with it, is that I had to reset the PRAM one time.

I can only conclude you are a dumbass.

Lol. well, when it comes to these machines, compared to your skills, that's about right. But I haven't done anything but post the truth.

I know more about these things than you do about women though.
I'll take my knowledge over yours any day.

All hail the almighty Mac, or not....

Shaid 09-13-2009 08:14 AM

It could be numerous things from paging file size set up incorrectly to webbots. Do you have an IT person at work? 4 CPU's in 5 years tells me that someone isn't doing their job correctly. I've built my own PC's for over 10 years now and the only thing I've ever had to replace has been a few hard drives once they've started making noise. Of course, I don't overclock my video cards.

HypnotizedMonkey 09-13-2009 08:18 AM

don't question the ultimate superiority of the mac... just go with it.

ChiefJustice 09-13-2009 08:22 AM

Really?

This tops the list of topics on game day in this forum?

You people disappoint me.
