Marty, Gunther, and Vermiel were very adamant about really kicking the Raiders' asses. From what I understand, the intensity in practice was elevated several levels during this week.

Will Haley bring back that hatred for our old Rivals, or is that kind of stuff just for the fans?

I don't think Vermeil made it nearly as big a deal as Marty did.

I sure hope so. Herm didn't seem to give a shit and it made me sick to my stomach.

I think Haley's disdain and anger is elevated every week.

Having JaMarcus, Bowe, Dorsey, and Jackson hug it out on our Arrowhead before the game might confuse some people.

Marty also hated the Raiders going back from his playing days in the AFL.

So beating them probably meant more to him than most recent KC coaches. That and the Raiders now aren't the bad cheap shot, dirty, law breaking Raiders that we've seen in the past. With ESPN 24/7, cameras everywhere during games, NFL suspension happy commissioners and paparazzi everwhere 24/7....that kinda behavior and mentality has probably regressed over the years.

Vrabel, Castle and Seymour will share a memory or two before the game also.

I miss Marty hatred of the Raiders

I agree. To Vermeil it was just another game. Marty took it personally. Gunther just yells at anything - squirrels, chairs, autistic children, he doesn't care.

Haley said he hated them as kid, we'll just have to see if it's carried over as an adult.

I did not know that he hated them.


This is a good sign. If I were the coach of any team playing the Raiders or the Broncos, you bet your ass my hatred of them would be conveyed upon my team.

I think I remember him stating his hatred of the Raiders as a kid during one of his first press conferences when he was hired. I don't have time to look, but I'm sure someone can provide a snippet. :)
