The wife managed to hit this poor bastard with the riding mower today. Not the greatest picture in the world, but can anyone give a clue as to what kind of snake we are dealing with here?

I handle my snake on a daily basis, but this is a family forum.

You have any other pics of it?

Jerm 09-27-2009 08:30 PM

Looks like a Bull Snake but I have no idea.

need a better picture, it's most likely a really big worm.

Spott 09-27-2009 08:32 PM

From that pic, it looks like a king snake. If it was, you shouldn't have killed it. They are very docile, and they eat other snakes(including Copperheads) as well as mice, rats, etc.

that is the dreaded LJ snake-it takes a hit and plays dead

Not to worry, they are very common in Missouri, Iowa, Eastern Kansas. As far as snakes go, they are one of the "better" ones to have around. The markings that I can see look just like a Prairie King Snake.

in all honesty, that was truly my guess, in my head.
