Would you try to acquire Merriman?

Apparently the Chargers are putting him on the trade block. He hasn't been good at all lately.

With that said, would you try to acquire him for say a 5th or 6th rounder to have his rights next year if it's uncapped?

Or is he finished at the ripe age of 27?

I think this defense needs someone who can potentially collapse a pocket, so I say yes, but I also get too hung up on guys who performed well years ago.

Thoughs?

I'd be all over it for a 5th or a 6th. Just wondering if the lack of roids caused his downfall

Hammock Parties 10-08-2009 07:29 AM

Well for a 5th or 6th you can't really go wrong.

Anything more than a 4th and you're playing with fire.

dirk digler 10-08-2009 07:30 AM

For a 5th or a 6th sure but I doubt the Chargers would trade him to a divisional opponent.

As far as Merriman being done it usually takes a player 2 years to fully recover from a serious knee injury like he had so it is hard to tell if he is done.

The Bad Guy 10-08-2009 07:31 AM

What if they wanted a 4th that could be a conditional #3 based on production?

Mecca 10-08-2009 07:32 AM

I don't think I'd trade for him, it's been obvious for awhile now they were going to walk away from him.

I'd still take this chance. The odds of hitting on a 4th round pick is way down there.

I don't think they are going to just cut ties if next year is uncapped.

If he's let go, he's the one defensive player I try to sign immediately.

Molitoth 10-08-2009 07:40 AM

I'm not a fan of the guy, but I think putting him on a new team will probably cause a "spark" in his play. If he wanted to play for the chiefs and kick the Chargers ass twice a year that would be fine with me.

PunkinDrublic 10-08-2009 07:40 AM

No way his injuries are piling up and he's on his way out of the league. I'll bet he gets a cushy studio analysis job. All the players I hate manage to get one.

Quesadilla Joe 10-08-2009 07:43 AM

I could see the Patriots going after him. They have plenty of picks available and really don't have one solid passrusher. Merriman was the reason the Chargers defense was so good in 2006 and 2007.

Demonpenz 10-08-2009 07:49 AM

he needs to take a full year off from all the off the field issues and get right. I don't think he would be truely great or he wouldn't be on all those damn shows.

Radar Chief 10-08-2009 07:52 AM

 Can he play RT?

jidar 10-08-2009 07:53 AM

provided he stayed healthy this year I'd probably do it for a 3rd.
He's young, DEs play a long time and he's been great before, he can be at least good again.

Yes, let's ignore other holes so we can fix the Oline exclusively.
