New Yorker Article On Kyle Turley...Scary Stuff...

Some of this was covered in the Yahoo article a month or so ago but reading what this guy lives with is sad.

Too long to post inline so here's the link: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2...urrentPage=all

A quick summary:

"My knees hurt! Waaah! "
"I have dementia! Waaah!"

I always knew he was a pussy.

Sad what he has to go through.

What a moronic article though, comparing football to dog fighting.

It's not moronic, but there's one big difference- NFL players play voluntarily and are compensated. The dogs are not. I sympathize with Turley, but that's part of the reason their compensation is as high as it is.
It's not like workers in other industries don't suffer long term problems with their bodies. I bet some guy that roofs houses for 20 years or works doing hard work in some factory has long term problems, too. I understand that the injuries to the brain an NFL player might suffer are a different thing than a bad back, but still, it's phyisical problems.
This is one of the reasons I don't mind when players want more money though.

I was hit with a rare encephalopathy a couple years ago and experienced a lot of the same symptoms. That stuff is terrifying.
Of course mine was due to a whacked out thyroid, not repeated blows to the nugget.

I'm glad there has been a bigger focus in the last few years on head injuries. I'm sure it's pretty difficult to avoid the effects altogether, but from what I hear it's the re-injuries when guys get rushed back too quickly. Sounds like that might have been a factor with Turley.

I didn't call the guy an idiot, I said his article was moronic.

Dogs have no choice whether they fight or not nor are they compensated in any way for their part in the battle unless you count taking a turn on a bitch on a rape stand compensation.

The guys who play professional football made an informed decision to enter the sport and make that their career of choice and are highly compensated for it.

Ridiculous question on the end of your post there by the way. Because not playing in the NFL precludes me from having a dissenting opinion than that of the writer of the article, right?

If time spent in the NFL is a qualifier for having an opinion on the matter... Malcolm Gladwell surely does not qualify either.

Demonpenz 10-19-2009 02:39 PM

i think dogfighting is alot like football

Problem is every time Turleys wife revs up the microwave he pisses his pants and forgets his name for like an hour...

Never express sympathy for another man, especially one who makes more money than you. It's a sign of weakness.

Crazy stuff on Turley, but a really weird article overall. The dog fighting stuff just came out of nowhere and seemed out of place. He should stick to writing about the players.
