Looney: Niswanger back in pads, speculating Page to IR?

HALEY TO CAN INJURY TALK - EXCEPT ON PAGE?
November 2nd – 4:45 PM

Let the speculation begin. S Jarrad Page missed practice this afternoon, apparently due to an injury suffered in practice last Thursday. That bit of news is about as routine as any injury talk, in any NFL city. But after a small turn of events this afternoon, Page’s situation becomes a bit more interesting..

Chiefs head coach Todd Haley informed the media today that he was not going to comment on specific player injuries going forward. This is a practice used by a handful of NFL head coaches for competitive reasons, but Haley had generally been forthright with the media throughout the first eight weeks of the regular season.

“From now on I’m not going to talk a lot about injuries, if at all,” Haley announced. “Unless something major comes up, I’m going to stay away from that.“

Ok, fair enough. There’s not much news there. But then, just a few minutes later when asked about Page’s absence, Haley indicated that Page was indeed injured and that he would address Page’s injury on Tuesday.

“I will talk about Jarrad Page tomorrow,” Haley stated. “He suffered another injury on Thursday and I’ll talk about that tomorrow.“

Interesting. Page is the exception? Is his injury serious?

Technically, Haley isn’t due to talk with the media again until Wednesday, but tomorrow is also “Transaction Tuesday” around the league, leaving actions in the form of roster moves to speak as well. The fact that Haley has opted to refrain from injury-talk for competitive reasons going forward, but is inclined to talk about Page, leaves a bit of speculation as to what will happen next regarding the Chiefs safety.

Page has dealt with lingering injuries throughout the season. A trip to the injured reserve certainly wouldn’t be a shock, but it would still be a bit of a surprise. Looks like we’ll find out exactly what Haley means tomorrow…or Wednesday.

CHIEFS STATEMENT ON LJ
November 2nd – 3:51 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs, in conjunction with the NFL Management Council, the NFL Players Association and RB Larry Johnson have settled all matters related to Johnson’s recent conduct. Johnson will remain suspended through the club’s game at Jacksonville on November 8th. He will not be permitted to participate in any team activities or be on team premises until Monday, November 9th. This matter is now closed, and the Chiefs will have no further comment.
MONDAY PRACTICE REPORT

November 2nd – 2:52 PM

The Chiefs concluded bye weekend and began work for Jacksonville this afternoon without any free safeties. Jarrad Page was absent from drills, while Jon McGraw is still bothered by a leg injury that kept him out of practices last week. Essentially, today is a bonus practice for prep-work, so Kansas City really doesn’t run into trouble unless both players are unable to go through practice on Wednesday. In Page and McGraw’s absence, CB Maurice Leggett and practice squad S Ricky Price took reps at free safety.

The surprise of the day was C Rudy Niswager dressed in pads. Niswanger was a no-show at all practices last week as he rehabbed what was originally thought to be torn knee ligaments. Reports now say that Niswanger suffered only an MCL sprain. Regardless, his participation in practice was a surprise. It should be noted that he was rather limited with his mobility.

T Branden Albert practiced once again this afternoon and it looks like, pending a major setback, that Albert will be ready to play this weekend. RB Jamaal Charles appears to be in line to start, with Kolby Smith and Dantrell Savage backing him up. Smith, however, has yet to be activated from the reserve/PUP list.

You know, the Chiefs are acting like a girlfriend(a bad, cheating girlfriend) who quits Fing you, and now, she's not going to talk to you much, but still wants use to buy her lunch on sundays and pay for gas to her parents house for the holidays.

This shit is only going to fly for so long. They're not giving us a professional product on the field, the least they can do is stop treating fans like children. "We're not talking about it, because we said so".

Eventually, we'll just start finding another girl to hang out with.

Most of the talk of the KC media is that LJ will not play another down for KC. Of course reliability is not their strong suit.

I'm just tired of it.

They talk to the fans like I do my 4 year old, only I'm a little more respectful to her.

I guess fans should continue the traditions that began at the end of carldom....Stop attending games, freeze out the Chiefs merchandise come the pending holiday seasons......

Its one thing to put a shit team on the field and try to sell it as professional football, but treat the fans like shit and see what happens.

I think the Chiefs fans have every effing right to know what the hell is happening with the "star player" they're supposed to keep shelling out money to see.

gee, what should I do this sunday.....Watch the turd-bowl with KC vs Jax.....and then watch the coach blow the media and fanbase off like idiots after yet another disappointing loss and 200yds rushing from M Jones-Drew....or say "eff it" hit the dvr button and do something I'll actually enjoy.

They should just move Brown to fs and play Morgan. I wonder what the major setback is with him. I know he only started one year in college but at one point he should be allowed to show what he can or cant do i live action for the defense and not just ST.

Cant be much worse than Brown.

Iowanian 11-02-2009 05:11 PM

If you think Brown sucks at SS, you sure as hell don't want to see his speed and coverage weakness exposed even further at FS.

It's pretty pathetic when a provider of an entertainment service not only puts out a shitty product, treats its paying customers like shit, let's them know forthright that they don't feel they are important enough to disclose information to, and on top of that still has thousands of loyal consumers willing to defend any and every decision they make.

chiefzilla1501 11-02-2009 05:13 PM

This only sucks because the alternatives suck too.

I thought Page was going to thrive in a new scheme and at least a hint of a pass rush. But he's one of the biggest liabilities on the team.

Mike Brown couldn't play FS for a DIII team.

true, I guess I just wanted to make a point that Morgan should get a shot if we really are that thin right now.

cookster50 11-02-2009 05:16 PM

That statement about LJ sure sounds like the FO is done with dealing with it. If true, bye bye fans.

Iowanian 11-02-2009 05:16 PM

Thats' what I'm talking about.

If a customer of mine weren't happy with the product I give them, I wonder if it would be better business to tell them that they don't really deserve to know why the product is screwed up, blame them for the information they provided and tell them not to bother me with any further questions about it.......or maybe stay late, listen to their issues, ask what I can do to make them feel better about the experience and possibly go as far as to spend some of my own money to make them happy.

The fans and Media aren't worthy of any information, are told not to ask certain questions......but guess who the F pays for the tickets and TV revenue that pay all of those bills?

This condescending BS will turn me on this administration much faster than the sub-talented herd of Jerry's Kids they're putting on the field on Sundays for $150/seat.

Morgan just isn't good, and because he's one of Herm's guys, he's a goner.

hell, they won't replace Goff or Niswanger....and they're much worse on production than Brown.

The bottom line is they need to win. Hardcore fans aren't going away because they don't talk about a guy with an ankle tweak and fairweather fans aren't jumping on the bandwagon until the team wins.

If they think withholding information gives them a competitive advantage, then they can be secretive. If they win, no one cares. If they lose, it only makes them unpopular and they'll probably be replaced sooner.

They can sit there and tell us about everyone that is injured in depth and we'd still be pissed at 1-6. Hell, we'd probably also be calling for the head trainer's a$$...
