Kokonis fired, Mangini stays

What sense does it make to fire your brand new GM and keep the coach who's really picking the talent?

Brock 11-02-2009 08:46 PM

Sorry didn't see the earlier thread.

Called a scape goat :)

kcxiv 11-02-2009 08:53 PM

Its just to buy the owner more time. Mangini is as good as gone as well. I dont think they want to fire both at the same time

Chiefnj2 11-02-2009 08:55 PM

Why the hell do you fire the GM halfway through the season? What decisions is he making right now that are affecting the play on Sundays?

Because you don't want him around evaluating college personnel and making draft decisions.

Something that Pioli somehow gets a pass for because he was in Siberia last year.

Oops, I mean New England.

Mangini must have slept with the GM or has pictures of him in compromising positions with sheep. These are the only 2 logical scenarios.

This is getting ridiculous already. So one franchise makes an insanely dumb decision to hire a guy who worked for a pretty successful organization mid-year, we should to?

You really want to mimic the Browns decisions? Really? They hire Eric Mangini and give him full control, which is the worst decision in all of football.

You missed my point entirely.

People around here have been giving Pioli a pass based on the speculation that the reason the Chiefs draft was so poor is because he had to work with "Herm's Scouts". Which BTW, is a ridiculous and ill-legitimate excuse.

I pointed out the only logical reason for his firing is that Mangini had seen enough of his work and decided that he didn't want him to scout and oversee the 2010 draft.

BigMeatballDave 11-02-2009 11:36 PM

I think the Browns may be more stupid than the Chiefs

Well they're saying the reason was that he and Mangini couldn't get along, and that Mangini was also trying to save his own arse.

And something about Kokinis talking to former co-workers and saying he should have never taken the job...

Basileus777 11-03-2009 12:28 AM

Something tells me that it wasn't Kokinis who pushed for terrible trades for bums from the Jets. He was basically a front for Mangini all-along. If Lerner has any sense, this is just a prelude to firing Mangini later.
