Anyone here with good knowledge about computers?

Was wondering if anyone can help, my computer has serious issues. Im suspecting it may be infected.

Its very weird how it operates. My computer plays random sounds at times. It does it by itself. There are times when I'll hear music playing in the background, or some commercial ad will come up randomly. Or, I'll hear people talking, etc. What could this be? Im dying to get rid of it, it's so frick'n annoying. There are times I want to tune into youtube, and then these stupid sounds pop up.

*any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe its haunted? Poltergeist? j/k

Seriously, sounds like you have some funkyness going on.

Do you have antivirus?
What OS are you running?

Usually, when crap like that goes on when I see a PC, I backup the data and reinstall the OS.

Save all the shit you want to a flash drive, format your hard drive and do a cleab install. After 7 years, it's likely due for that anyway.

Serious? There's still people that don't run anti-virus?

AVAST antivirus / malwarebytes / Trojan Remover (by simplysup software)

Those 3 will clear MOST anything that could be the problem.

The hard part will be getting them to install on an infected system.. if you can get them installed and UPDATED... then running them should fix ya up.

Nope. No one on this board knows anything about Computers. Try Best Buy.

Bad advise. Redthat doesn't seem to be tech savvy. He could lose some "stuff" due to human error.

It's likely a malware spybot of some kind. The tools already mentioned are idiot proof and easy to run and will automatically find and kill the bots.

Try to restart you computer in Safe Mode.

If you can do that you are half way there, connect to the internet and download the protection programs called for earlier.

Run each of those in Safe Mode. I would say that should take care of issues. Anytime you feel you have a problem with your system I'd recommend downloading new virus definitions while in the Safe Mode. My current computer came with McAfee (less than great AV software) but for a while it would do automatic updates. All of a sudden it stopped updating, windows stopped updating. I couldn't get it to load manually either, whenever I connected to their website IE shutdown. Didn't have that problem in Safe Mode and was able to clean the system up. I eventually removed McAfee and loaded the free version of AVG. It's stopped everything that has tried since. I use it on both XP systems and Vista. Haven't tried Windows 7 yet.
