Great Author, weird guy.

In Catcher, I think his capturing of the slow decent into insanity is amazing. The guy goes from being cynical, to strange, to messed up, to downright crazy, and it unfolds before your eyes. Beautifully done.

You're just full of good news today.

Author of "The Catcher in the Rye" by the way.

I know, right.

Guess I need to reread Holden Caulfield's story about baseball and bread.

Donger 01-28-2010 12:51 PM

That's two. Who's the third going to be?

Slainte 01-28-2010 12:52 PM

"Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff - I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be."

To be honest, I thought he died ten years ago, right after John Goodman. RIP!

Was he known for anything else besides Catcher in the Rye?

Reaper16 01-28-2010 01:31 PM

It was awesome how he wasn't compelled to write any other novels just to have something to make money off of.

he wrote Franny and Zooey, but for some reason, even though I've started it 2 or 3 times I never could finish it.

"The Catcher in the Rye" is one of those books that is a required read in high school that you're thankful they made you read.
