A poll about your online presence.

Which of the statements in the accompanying poll is most true of you?

Poll to follow, obviously.

jjjayb 01-29-2010 10:52 PM

I vote Yes!

Mastashake 01-29-2010 11:07 PM

It varies with me. Sometimes I don't want to offend people, and just choose my words, speak carefully and precisely. The internet allows me to do this with revision.

Sometimes you just need to go with whatever your feeling, and the internet sucks for that.

I let it fly and wait for the sons of bitches to come try and find me if they've got the balls.

teedubya 01-30-2010 12:46 AM

I can do both equally well.

teedubya 01-30-2010 12:46 AM

Poll FAIL by Rain Man! Yes!!

I've killed men for less than that.

I was wondering if I was unusual, in that I feel that I can share more of my real personality online than I can in real life. Apparently it's not that unusual, which is interesting to me because it means half of the people we know in real life are presenting a different persona than their actual personality.

Inhibition can be a debilitating thing, or enabling. Sometimes it can be both at once.

Bugeater 01-30-2010 01:26 AM

I think I'm pretty much the same either way.

Yeah, maybe so.

I'm far more reserved in real life than I am on here. I don't really know why. I think maybe I'm a lot more cautious about possibly insulting or offending people in real life, and for some reason don't worry about it as much online.

Perhaps there are more repercussions to your real-life actions than that online...

There's no way to track rep in real life, but aside from that, you may be right.

cdcox 01-30-2010 09:55 AM

I'm about the same either way. I tend to be a wall flower until I get comfortable in a situation and get to know the people better. Then I open up a bit more, but still hold certain things pretty close the the vest.

On here, I mostly lurked my first few years, even though I read the board every day.

In RL, people tend to get the idea I'm unapproachable when they first meet me. Then once I get comfortable enough with them or the situation to let down the forcefields a bit, they are surprised how much more relaxed I am than what their initial perception suggested.

Where is the "I've lost my burst" option?

BucEyedPea 01-30-2010 09:57 AM

I express myself better in written form—period.
