The Melting Pot

Anyone ever eat there? What should I expect? I have a date tonight. Its a 'first' date.

Donger 03-04-2010 10:24 AM

I have. For what it costs, I don't think I should have to cook my own food.

Katipan 03-04-2010 10:28 AM

It's perfect for a first date tho because it's interactive.

Invariably someone is going to drop something. Someone is going to giggle. The other someone is going to think it's cute.

Really shouldn't have very many uncomfortably quiet moments.

I think it is pretty good. By far the best part is dessert time.

Cook? I thought it was just Fondue and stuff?

Expect a pretty large bill and average food. I don't understand the appeal at except its "different"

You have to cook the little pieces of meat in oil before you eat it.

This. It really wasn't worth the amount of money that my wife and I spent. I heard the cheese fondue and dessert fondue is pretty inexpensive.

I suppose so. I found the entire experience to be underwhelming, tasteless and over-priced. But, it most certainly wasn't a first date.

Crashride 03-04-2010 10:32 AM

Its a tad expensive in my book, but it is a great unique experience for a first date. Especially if neither of you have been there before! Basically there is a hot plate built into the table with a pot boiling chicken broth/chocolate/cheese or whatever you choose, and you dip raw foods into it. Personally I wouldnt go back unless it was for a first date but it was a unique experience.

Chiefnj2 03-04-2010 10:33 AM

I love the place. It should be a good first date as long as: 1) you both can agree on the fondue/cooking types/chocolate variety. You share the same pot, and 2) you have stuff to talk about. It's a long meal. If you don't hit it off, you'll be sitting together for a while in awkward silence.

Ah, there's meat. Cool. I was just thinking veggies and bread.

BigMeatballDave 03-04-2010 10:38 AM

I fully expect to spend $60. Probably no Entrée. Just Fondue, plus dessert fondue.

Saulbadguy 03-04-2010 10:38 AM

Dessert is exceptional. The rest is MEH.

Yeah - I'm not a fan whatsoever. Maybe if the food was half-price.
