The NFL says a combined 23.3 million people caught at least a few minutes of the first round. ESPN also says it led the night among adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and all male demographics.

It also appears that the draft took a good-sized bite out of the broadcast networks Thursday night. NBC's comedies, which have decent-sized followings among young men, were particularly hard-hit: "Community," "The Office" and "30 Rock" (which aired two episodes) were all well below their season averages in both viewers and adults 18-49. CBS' and FOX's shows were also below average in the demo.

Those are all preliminary numbers. An Associated Press story this afternoon said the overnight ESPN number was 5.47. But the draft also was shown on NFL Network, where AP says it drew a 0.95 rating, for a combined total of 6.42.

Anyway you cut it, that's a rough night for the NBA, considering it had superstars LeBron James and Kobe Bryant playing.

Not surprising, I totally forgot the office was on or i would have switched over.

I dvr'd The Office but watched the draft.

I'd be happier if they did a Friday, Saturday & Sunday instead.

Even the thought of football is better than basketball.
