Well, it was down for a couple of miutes before I posted. That's pretty unusual for Google, but of course the second I did post, it came back up again.

Russians. Russian mob to be exact. Very basic, brute force attack and easily defended but there servers still have to spend time processing the datagrams to defend theirselfs. This should not have caused an outage or a slowdown of service. This is information in a defense against hackers 101 class.
