Windshield Replacement

Got hit by a rock a couple of nights ago, before I even realized it had done damage the next morning a crack had already started, which has grown to about ten inches. I assume there's no way to fix it, but I haven't had to have a windshield replaced in so long I have no idea how much it costs. All the web pages for local auto glass guys say call for estimate, which won't work very well on Labor Day.

Any ideas how much this will set me back? The car is a 2006 Impala.

1 million dollars. Or in exchange for one melted outdoor grill.

Seriously, I just had my windshield replaced a couple months ago for about $250. I'd assume yours would be in the $200-300 range too.

That sucks, but it's about what I expected. I wonder if it's even worth calling the insurance company?

Can't hurt.

I have State Farm and have never filed a claim for anything. You'd think that would earn me a free windshield, but somehow I doubt if they see it that way. :D

It depends on the car. It can range from $200 - $1200. If you have comprehensive coverage, your insurance policy should pay for it, minus your deductible.

TrebMaxx 09-06-2010 11:22 AM

My insurance will cover the cost to replace the windshield with a $100 deductible. Might want to check your policy.

IIRC, I have a $500 deductible - it won't cost that much.

As do I. That being said, by doing it that way, you have already saved enough over the years to buy a shit load of windshields, smart move.

Not that this helps you now, Frazod...but we have Geico and I had 3 small rock strikes on the windshield. I called up and they sent Safelite out free of charge to me and filled the chips at my house. It doesn't hurt to check.

DaFace 09-06-2010 11:34 AM

I had a chip in mine a while back and learned online that some insurance policies have a no-deductible-applied windshield policy. However, I'm with State Farm as well and my policy didn't have it, so I just paid mine out of pocket.
