Chiefs’ Haley declines to fire back at Vernon Davis

Chiefs’ Haley declines to fire back at Vernon Davis

Haley won’t respond to Davis

A day after 49ers tight end Vernon Davis guaranteed on a conference call with Kansas City reporters that San Francisco would beat the Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, Todd Haley declined the chance to fire back.

“We are really focused on our task at hand, which is getting a little better each and every day,” Haley said. “That’s what I feel like we’re doing. That’s what ultimately will give us a chance to become a good team, hopefully sooner rather than later.

“That being said, Vernon Davis is a heck of a player and a heck of a competitor. I would expect that to be his belief and viewpoint.”

Davis had 12 catches this season, putting him second only to Dallas Clark of Indianapolis among NFL tight ends.

Concentrating on the 49ers

Like last week when they prepared to play Cleveland, the 2-0 Chiefs are in an unfamiliar place: They have a better record than their upcoming opponent. San Francisco is 0-2.

The 49ers, like the Browns, haven’t made the playoffs in recent seasons. But Haley indicated that 0-2 doesn’t accurately reflect the level of the 49ers’ talent, and he didn’t have to go to great lengths to get that point across to the players.

“I only had to put on a few (video) clips (of the 49ers),” Haley said. “There are some things that go on on that tape that are hard to ignore. This is a very good team that has done some things to cost them some games. We know those same things.

“It’s hard to win in the NFL. Each week you feel, ‘How in the heck are we going to beat these guys?’ ”

Injury report

The Chiefs had several changes from Wednesday’s report. Defensive end Wallace Gilberry (back), linebacker Tamba Hali (foot) and safety Jon McGraw (hamstring) were listed as full-practice participants. Each was listed as limited in practice the day before.

The Chiefs added reserve safety Reshard Langford to their injury report as limited in practice because of an ankle injury.

Defensive end Tyson Jackson (knee) and Ryan O’Callaghan (groin) did not practice for the second straight day, making their participation in Sunday’s game highly unlikely.

Haley was on Inside the NFL this week & nothing was brought up about this subject.

Tyson Jackson could surely help us late in this game, hopefully their OL doesn't wear down our DL by the second half of the fourth quarter.

As far as the non response, Im sure his response will be clear on the field.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see both DJ and Berry come away from this game with ints because they will be trying to force the ball to Vernon to open up everything else.

Im calling it right now:

Berry gets his first NFL pick 6 on Sunday!

I expect if we win for Haley to say "hows my ass taste?"

What do you want to bet Vernon Davis gets his dick knocked in the dirt all game long by Mike Vrabel?

By this do you mean illegal contact in the endzone on 3rd down?

I believe that'll be Smith's job.

It doesn't matter.

Haley's from the Parcells school and his guys don't call out players.

He'll let his players do the talkin'.

I'm actually glad it happened. I'd like to see Corey Mays push around Davis on running downs.

:D
