Do We Have Enough To Make A Big Move?
I love what we are seeing out of our defense, which I think is the foundation to really turning a franchise around. Obviously, the QB play (and the WR play) are suspect to say the least. I still think, with our schedule, we're going to win the West this year. The team has a lot o fight in it and a couple good running backs. When the weather turns cold, good defenses and good running games will win you some close games.
If we follow this hypothetical, the Chiefs will be drafting towards the end of the draft with a glaring need at QB. At the very least, we would have to give up two first round picks and a third to get into a spot to draft a franchise caliber QB. At the very least. Are you comfortable enough trading away those picks to get that opportunity or are there still too many areas where we need infusions of talent? Of course, depending how far one needs to trade up will dictate the actual price, so, if you're a draftnik type of person, how much would you trade to get the top QB next year? |
its too early to know, but it seems this year's draft will have 3 good QB prospects (Luck, Mallet, and Foles) and fringe guys in Locker and possibly Ponder. That's more than recent years, where there has been one guy and that's it. If that's true, one of the top 3 could fall to the middle of the first round and it wouldn't take as much for us to get him.

Luck .. but he won't be there when we draft .....

If we win the West this year, it would have to go down as one of the greatest of franchise achievements. Prior to this season, we have won only 10 games in the last 3 years. We had reached the depths and opened an all-night taco stand.
To win the West and make the playoffs would have been utterly unthinkable one year ago. FAX |
Nothing.
If Christian Ponder is sitting there with their pick, then you might pull the trigger on him. Otherwise, get your speed rusher (Von Miller/Akeem Ayers) in the first in 2011. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zCuu6UyO3B0?rel=0" frameborder="0"></iframe> Pick Pat Devlin, Delaware (formerly of Penn State) in the second round in 2011. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/d4SBu8S3IFI?rel=0" frameborder="0"></iframe> Or Colin Kaepernick in the third/fourth/fifth round in 2011. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1xWjpfrAbw0?rel=0" frameborder="0"></iframe> Pick Cam Newton of Auburn in 2012 with the first rounder, then Kellen Moore in the third/fourth round 2012. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hGR8n00kJqk?rel=0" frameborder="0"></iframe> <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lFtpz3WCg-s?rel=0" frameborder="0"></iframe> Upgraded. Newton, Kaepernick and Moore. Let the best man win. |

Rodgers slipped way back in the draft. Freeman went in the mid 1st to Tampa. There's options. I don't think it's guaranteed we got QB with our first pick. |
We could acquire Vincent Jackson. He would be a nice addition to the team.

I vote "no" to trading up in a significant way in the first round of 2012. Build for a long term future, even if the QB doesn't get here for a couple more years (and in the meantime try to hit on a lower profile prospect or trade for a proven commodity who isn't over the hill). It's too early to start cashing in and playing only for now.

Do whatever it takes and ship Cassel as far away from KC as possible. JFC, I've grown to hate that dude with a passion.

Saccopoo really needs to be euthanized.

I'd trade two 1st rounders & two 2nd rounders to get Luck.
