Players playing for contract

The thread about Chambers being questionable this week reminds me to post this topic.

Chambers was very good after we signed him last year and the Chiefs 'O' improved a lot. This year though, he has disappeared. He IS talented, and I am hoping that his reason for the decline is some sort of injury that has slowed him down. But I also worry that he is not performing up to his talent because he already HAS his contract.

This brings up the thought that we have many players in their contract year this year. I don't recall all of them but some are showing improved play which is one reason the Chiefs have performed better so far.

Could you post the names of our players in contract year and your opinion as to who among them is immature enough to ONLY be playing to increase their market value?

last year when Chambers was doing well our offense was being much more aggressive and throwing the ball more.

so it's hard to tell

This year is almost complete martyball mode.

Agreed. I thought after that Denver game last year when we opened up the 'O' this was the path we were gonna take.

Chambers is 32 years old, which may be a bigger factor than contract status.

Cassel.

Tamba and Jamaal don't strike me as the type to slow down after a contract. I'm not sure about the rest of that group. So I think we are in good shape, futurewise.

The players I'll be observing would be Carr, DJ, and Shaun Smith.

Not me, if we had a decent quarterback, Bowe wouldnt be an issue one bit.

He wasn't when we had Thigpen and Huard and they are far from "decent quarterbacks"

Im not worried one bit about these guys contracts coming up.

Not.
One.
Bit.

Um, I recall Bowe dropping Hutard and Thigpen passes that SHOULD have been easily caught. That opener against NE comes to mind...

Just sayin'. :thumb:

It seems bowe catches the tough ones and drops the easy ones. I think he does better when he doesn't have to think and relies on instincts instead.

He's just not a cerebral player. He made it this far on his natural athletic ability.
