Schefter - McDaniels is safe through 2011

Just heard this on NFL Countdown.

Basically there is no way Bowlen is going to fire McDaniels because he owes him 3 mil per year and he's still paying Shanahan through 2011.

If he fires McDaniels now he has to pay three head coaches at once.

Not happening.

IMO, if he were to get fired before the season ends, McD is too young to sit out 2011. An established HC can afford to do that, but not a guy in his position. (I'm not talking about the financial kind of "afford" here.) I'd like to think that he'd have to try to get on staff as a coordinator somewhere for the 2011 season. That would mitigate some of the financial pain.

Of course, this could all be wishful thinking.

Yes, it is. Think about it, he could take $3 million to take a year off and do nothing, or he can take a coordinator job for much less money and work his ass off, night and day. The fact that he's young means he has more flexibility, not less. He'll still be a hot prospect as O-Coordinator in 2012.

McSafeForNow is a OC anyway vs an actual HC.I say that loosely too,he has to have the right guy (BB) pulling his strings.

Yes, it's a given that he can probably squeak by on $3 million. I don't think it's a wise career move.

I'm going to bump this thread when McD molds Tebow into a great QB. Could be next year, could be the year after that, but once Tebow gets the starting job you guys will change your tune on McD.
