Crennel praises Carr

Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said he was as pleasantly surprised as anyone last week when third-year cornerback Brandon Carr had perhaps the best game of his career. While Brandon Flowers still nursed a bad hamstring, Carr kept Broncos wide receiver Brandon Lloyd in check and had five deflections.

“I don’t know that people expected him to make the plays that he made last week,” Crennel said, “but we knew that he had that kind of ability, and he stepped up. He was challenged; he accepted the challenge and made the plays. I think that he is a better player as a result of that, and I think he has more confidence too as a result of that.”

Injury report

Other than quarterback Matt Cassel, who was listed as doubtful, the Chiefs had only two players listed on their injury report. Safety Kendrick Lewis and defensive back Donald Washington are each listed as questionable because of ankle injuries.

For San Diego, wide receiver Patrick Crayton is out because of a wrist injury, and another receiver, Legedu Naanee, is doubtful because of a bad hamstring. Tight end Antonio Gates is questionable because of injuries to his toe and foot. Neither Crayton, Naanee nor Gates practiced Friday. Running back Darren Sproles (concussion) was limited in practice and is listed as questionable.

Receiver Vincent Jackson (calf), linebacker Brandon Siler (rib) and guard Louis Vasquez (neck) also are questionable. Linebacker Stephen Cooper (knee) and defensive tackle Antonio Garay (ankle) are probable.
