Sac's February Mock - Best Yet!

It’s officially Haley’s team now. Bill Muir is the official OC/OL coach and Haley is who’ll be calling the plays. He’s going to build this sumabitch the way he wants it built. That means getting the right guys in to do the job.

1. Anthony Costanzo, OT; Boston College: 6’7”, 305 lbs.
- Haley is tired of having to put Albert on an exercise bike at the start of every training camp. He wants mobile, athletic tackles for his zone scheme and Costanzo, a four year starting tackle and first team All American fits the bill perfectly.

2. Christian Ponder, QB; Florida State: 6’2”, 220 lbs.
- Haley rides Matt Cassel like a Leadville donkey. He wants a smart, poised quarterback that can make quick reads. Cassel isn’t that guy. Ponder is. Already working on his PhD in business (got his bachelors and masters in under four years), Ponder is athletic, has a nice arm and has excellent pocket and field awareness. Visions of Kurt Warner are dancing through Haley’s head.

3. Jerrell Powe, NT; Ole Miss: 6’3”, 335 lbs.
- To get Pioli and Crennel off his back, he picks the Ole Miss nose tackle, team captain and teammate of current Chiefs Dexter McCluster and Kendrick Lewis. Powe has great size for the NT and will fill the two-gap position effectively.

4. Austin Pettis, WR; Boise State: 6’3”, 205 lbs.
- Haley has his Boldin in Dwayne Bowe, now he needs his Fitzgerald. Pettis isn’t exactly Fitz, but he runs great routes, extends for the ball, has hands of glue and knows how to find the end zone. He’s also a pretty good open field runner. Should be an excellent possession receiver.

5. Jake Kirkpatrick, C; TCU: 6’2”, 300 lbs.
- The 2010 Rimington Award winner, Kirk was also a 2nd team AA. Deceptively strong with good quicks, an excellent zone blocking center prospect.

6. Mike Mohammed, LB; California: 6’3”, 240 lbs.
- Mohammed is a tough, smart guy that only missed one game his entire career. Has good size and a frame to add more, he is athletic enough to play either inside or outside. Has a great nose for the ball in both the pass and run. Finished his career with fourth most tackles in school history.

7. Rob McGill, OT; Louisiana Tech: 6’6”, 310 lbs.
- Three-time all-conference player who has started since his freshman season. Very good run blocker in addition to having good footwork in pass protection. He won’t remind anyone of former Bulldog Willie Roaf right off the bat, but there’s a lot of tools to work with and develop.

Sac picks a OT in R1? No way.

Ponder in the 2nd is just as epic.

You are dreaming if you think its Haley making picks for this team. This is Pioli's baby as far as bringing in players for this team.

Don't love this draft but don't hate it either. No really wow picks but we are a deeper and better team with it. I just think WR is bigger need than you do. Go Chiefs

The Franchise 02-03-2011 02:48 PM

I know you aren't comparing Ponder's arm strength to Warners......are you?

Great Expectations 02-03-2011 02:50 PM

I'd wait until the 4th for Powe, here is a good revision:

1) Tyron Smith
2) Mallett
3) Torry Smith
4) Powe

I think everyone would be happy with this, of course all those guys will fall to us. Next a OLB and C in FA and we are set.

Great mock. 100% chance all of those players are off the board by those picks.

the Talking Can 02-03-2011 03:46 PM

i'm actually down with your drafts even though is 0 chance they'd ever happen...

I'm down with drafting a RT though....and i think we won't draft a QB higher than 5th

RealSNR 02-03-2011 04:24 PM

I REALLY like this draft. I'm a fan of the top 3 guys and the others all make sense. They fill needs and look like talented players. The majority of these players (with the exception of Ponder) will likely contribute extensively this year.

It's almost TOO beautiful. I just know that this kind of quality isn't possible with the assholes we have making the decisions for this team.

Agree with your #3 pick but here is what I was hoping for.

Round 1 Pick 21
Justin Houston OLB Gerogia
I differ from you here since I think the defense needs a pass rusher more then the offense needs a tackle

Round 2 Pick 55
Jake Kirkpatrick Center TCU
Took him higher then you did because the simulator had him getting snagged quickly in the late 2nd round. Fills the need for o-line improvement

Round 3 Pick 86
Jerrell Powe DT Mississippi
Took him at the same round you did. Obviously a new Nose tackle is needed since the Cheifs are getting gashed up the middle.

Round 4 Pick 117
Ronald Johnson WR USC
Pettis was gone by the time this pick was here and so I chose Johnson from USC

Round 5 pick 148
Pat Devlin QB Delaware
You had Ponder in the 2nd and I just don't think the Regime will take a QB that high. Although a QB is needed and Devlin was still here according to the simulator.

Round 5 pick 151
James Brewer OT Indiana
Here is where I think a tackle can be taken and still get good investment.

I didnt go to the 7th round for picks. I completed this with the online draft simulation found here,
http://drafttek.com/new%20simulator/

The only change I physically made was the Justin Houston in the 1st for the simulator. Everything else popped out like this. The Simulator had the Chiefs taking Wiesnewski or whatever the dudes name is for a Center in the 1st.

We sure as hell should be drafting at least 2 this year... 3 may be a bit much but at least he had one as a 7th rounder...

the problem I have with this draft scenario is that I can NOT see Kirkpatrick lasting to the 5th... I also like Cannon from TCU but I see him as an OG and I'd much rather address C and RT first. (not to mention, NT, WR and LB)
