I think people underestimate the sheer power of water. Some of these videos have certainly demonstrated that. Although I agree that in all of them you see people milling about or driving before the wave hits, and you wonder what happened to them.
That and all the people who were probably shooting insane video who didn't make it when the entire building they were in got swept away. |

When power is restored in these areas you'll see ALOT more video I think. This isn't some poor country lacking in people wiht handheld electronic devices.
