Sharks in the water??? It can't be..can it?

A professional diver working in the harbour at the French Riviera port of Saint-Tropez saw a large shark swim by him three times over the weekend, local newspaper Var-Matin reported on Monday

Nicolas Faucon told the newspaper he was underwater untangling the anchor chains of boats moored at Saint-Tropez, a glitzy Mediterranean holiday spot, when a two-metre-long (6 foot) shark glided past him at arm's length.

"A shark passed by 50cm (20 inches) from me. I am 100 per cent sure of it," Faucon told the paper, as tens of thousands of French holidaymakers descended upon Riviera beaches for the start of the annual August vacation.

"It didn't seem aggressive. It looked at me, and then changed direction," Faucon said.

Riviera holidaymakers include President Nicolas Sarkozy and his pregnant wife Carla Bruni, who arrived on Monday in Cap Negre – an easy swim from Saint-Tropez for a shark.

Faucon made a swift exit, but said he saw the shark again when he went back underwater an hour later, and he spotted it again, further away, the following day.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the ocean is most likely where one would encounter a shark.

I'm glad we have these top-shelf reporters to lend some truth to such a theory.

If I were a diver, I would avoid the water for the next several days. Everybody knows it's Shark Week.

He's French they can never be sure where or whom the next invasion will come from.

Ya, but Saint Tropez is a large mega occupied stretch of beach right now.

I imagine everyone saw the great white that jumped on board a research ship a few days ago..

Meaning sharks shouldn't be there????

To go out on another limb, I bet all those people have been and are in the water quite often when sharks were around and they had no clue.

Something about the ocean being the natural habitat for a shark and all....

Seriously though, if I were ever afraid to get in the ocean, and I am not, it would be in Florida. Long history of shark attacks there.

But as me Pappy always said, if you don't want to swim with the sharks, buy a swimin' pool!

petegz28 08-02-2011 09:16 PM

Hey, Ron.....did you hear there was a shark in the water????

It's probably a french shark anyway so little risk to anyone, the closer you get to it the farther it will run away.

This thread was short but funny.
